Chapter 27: The Biology Expert, Lu Yusi

Liu Shuang'er was absolutely right—everything they had discussed was just speculation.

"Shuang'er, wouldn't it be great if we had a biology expert on our team? She could give us some targeted insights," Huang Ming mused.

Gu Anqing, who had been listening to their conversation while working, chimed in without looking up.

"I actually know someone like that. But whether she'd be willing to join us is another matter."

Huang Ming and Liu Shuang'er exchanged glances, their eyes filled with curiosity and anticipation.

"Senior Anqing, tell us more. Who is this person, and what makes her so special?"

"Her name is Lu Yusi. She's the top student in the biology department and, like me, a senior intern. We once collaborated on a project and won a special award. Her expertise in biology is on par with my skills in mechanical engineering. But we're not close—we only worked together that one time."

Gu Anqing paused briefly, still focused on her work, before adding,

"Lu Yusi lives in Building 2, right next to Building 1. Like Building 5, it's one of the farthest from our Building 10. And with all the zombies in Building 1 now, it's probably..."

Huang Ming set down the drone controller and sat on the couch, deep in thought. He wasn't rushing to make a decision, weighing whether a biology expert was worth the risk of a rescue mission.

Liu Shuang'er, with her keen medical insight, understood Huang Ming's hesitation. She analyzed the situation:

"As a biology expert, especially if she's a virologist, she could be incredibly valuable in the future. If she's as talented as Anqing says, she might even collaborate with her to develop biochemical weapons. I could also work with her, combining medical and biological expertise to explore genetic engineering. Who knows what breakthroughs we could achieve?"

Huang Ming was stunned. His mind raced with possibilities:

"Biochemical weapons? Genetic engineering?"

"If I provide the resources, energy, and equipment, the three of them working together could actually create biochemical weapons and even unlock breakthroughs in human genetics?"

The more he thought about it, the more excited he became. He couldn't help but grab Liu Shuang'er and kiss her.

"Shuang'er, you're amazing. You've solved my dilemma. We absolutely need this biology expert on our team!"

Liu Shuang'er blushed and pushed him away, flustered.

"Stop it... Anqing's right here. Have some decency!"

Her heart raced, caught off guard by his sudden affection.

Gu Anqing didn't react. She was used to their antics by now. But deep down, she knew it was only a matter of time before she, too, fell for this charming and resourceful man. She didn't regret it—in fact, she was willing to give everything for him. She just didn't know when that day would come.

After nearly half a month in the apocalypse, both Liu Shuang'er and Gu Anqing had come to terms with the reality. A capable man like Huang Ming, with endless resources and good looks, was bound to attract multiple women.

"Senior Anqing, could you reach out to Lu Yusi and see if she's willing to join us?"

"Sure, I'll handle it."

She put down her tools and pulled out her phone, sending a message to Lu Yusi.

"Yusi, are you there? It's Anqing."

It didn't take long for Lu Yusi to reply. In the apocalypse, everyone was either glued to their phones or lying in bed, conserving energy to survive on minimal food.

"Anqing? It's you! What's up?"

"If someone could guarantee you a lifetime of security and resources, would you be willing to follow him?"

"Him? Who? A lifetime of security? Interesting. Can you tell me more?"

"Sorry, I can't say much. He's interested in your expertise in biology. If you're willing to serve him unconditionally, he'll rescue you from Building 2."

"Rescue me? To where? Unconditional service?"

"Yes, to his place in Building 10."

Lu Yusi was a top student, nearly at the top of her class. She quickly picked up on the implications of Gu Anqing's message.

First, she knew Gu Anqing's capabilities well. If even she had submitted to this man, the promise of lifelong security was likely genuine.

But the idea of unconditionally serving a stranger made her blush. As a biology expert, she was all too familiar with the concept of "soft tissue hardening."

She glanced at her empty kitchen. She hadn't eaten since last night and was on the verge of starvation.

Lu Yusi had already planned to take her own life when she could no longer endure the hunger. She didn't want to become one of those grotesque zombies.

But just as she was on the brink of despair, Gu Anqing offered her a lifeline.

Yet, as someone who had always been fiercely independent, the thought of becoming another man's plaything was unbearable.

She sat curled up on the couch, hugging her knees, her mind a whirlwind of conflicting emotions.

Lu Yusi desperately wanted to live. She had so much untapped potential in biology and wasn't ready to give up. But she couldn't bring herself to cross that line.

Time passed, and Gu Anqing didn't press her. As someone who had once been in a similar position, she understood Lu Yusi's struggle.

But since Lu Yusi wasn't her close friend, there was only so much she could say. She sighed inwardly, hoping Lu Yusi would come to the right decision on her own.

Half an hour later, Lu Yusi still hadn't replied. Gu Anqing grew concerned.

She decided to lay it all on the line. After all, she herself was destined to fall for Huang Ming sooner or later.

"Yusi, since you haven't joined us yet, I can't say too much. But I can tell you this: I once felt exactly as you do now. But after joining and getting to know him, I can honestly say I don't regret it. I'm even willing to give everything for him."

Lu Yusi read the new message, her furrowed brow relaxing slightly.

She was now deeply curious about the kind of man who could make Gu Anqing, a mechanical genius and campus goddess, willingly devote herself to him.

Lu Yusi, who had always admired Gu Anqing's talents, found herself intrigued.

Her resolve began to waver, and a sense of anticipation started to grow within her.
