Chapter 28: Delivering Food via Drone!

Lu Yusi felt it was impolite to keep others waiting too long, so she quickly replied:

"Anqing, as a woman, you should understand my concerns. I don't want to become someone's plaything. Do you get that?"

"Yusi, you're overthinking it! He's not that kind of person. What he values is your expertise in biology."

Lu Yusi stared at her phone, her defenses slowly crumbling.

"What about you two?"

"Don't worry. He respects me. We're completely innocent so far. But I can tell you this—if he wanted to, I'd be ready anytime. Do you believe me?"

Lu Yusi was stunned, her jaw nearly dropping as she read Gu Anqing's reply. She was truly questioning her life choices.

"This..."

"If it weren't for the apocalypse, I'd want to marry him."

What kind of outrageous statement was that?!

Thankfully, Huang Ming wasn't privy to their conversation, or his jaw would've hit the floor.

At this point, Lu Yusi wasn't foolish. If she continued to resist, no one would bother with her anymore.

"Anqing, I trust you. I'll join you. What should I do now?"

Gu Anqing jumped up from her workstation when she saw Lu Yusi's agreement. She quickly followed up:

"Yusi, do you still have food? How long can you hold out? You know how far Building 10 is from Building 2. We need to make a plan, but I'm not sure how much time you have left."

"Anqing, I'm sorry, but I haven't eaten in almost a day. I only have half a bottle of water left. I can probably last one more day at most."

Lu Yusi's tone sounded weak, as if she was on her last legs. One day was likely her limit.

"Got it. Wait for my message. We'll discuss and figure something out soon."

Gu Anqing ended the conversation and immediately went to the couch to update Huang Ming.

Huang Ming was initially thrilled to hear that Lu Yusi had agreed to join, but his heart sank when he learned she might not last another day.

At this point, Gu Anqing's emergency equipment was still in the early stages of production. There was no time to use it. If they went out in regular clothing, the risk of being scratched or bitten was too high. Huang Ming was torn.

As Huang Ming hesitated, Liu Shuang'er, ever perceptive, sensed his anxiety. She tentatively suggested:

"Huang Ming, what if we have Anqing modify the drones? We could use them to deliver food to Lu Yusi. We don't need to send much at once—just make multiple trips. Do you think that could work? I'm against going out to rescue her right now. It's too risky without proper preparation."

As soon as Liu Shuang'er finished speaking, Huang Ming's eyes lit up. He glanced at Gu Anqing, who nodded in understanding.

"Modifying the drones is child's play. Carrying some bread shouldn't be a problem. Shuang'er's right—we can't go out now. Wait until I finish the emergency gear before you make a move."

"Alright, let's go with that plan. Senior Anqing, modify the drones first. Once they're ready, we'll send some food over and have her wait a few more days."

As they spoke, Gu Anqing pulled out her phone to message Lu Yusi.

"Yusi, we've decided to send you some food via drone first. Time is tight, and our emergency gear isn't ready yet. This can't be rushed. I'll contact you once the modifications are done."

Lu Yusi was shocked. She hadn't expected them to send food instead of risking a rescue. This made her view Huang Ming in a new light. In her mind, she pictured a handsome, calm, and composed figure.

"Drones? Wow! You guys are amazing! No wonder you're a mechanical genius!"

Gu Anqing didn't let the praise go to her head. She knew her strengths and had no reason to boast.

"Yusi, no need to flatter me. We'll be relying on your expertise in biology soon."

"Got it. I'll wait for your message."

Lu Yisi couldn't help but smile as she read Gu Anqing's message. She was confident in her abilities—her talent in biology was boundless.

Less than an hour later, Gu Anqing had modified two drones. Each could now carry a 400-milliliter bottle of water.

Huang Ming retrieved some sandwiches and milk from his dimensional storage. One drone carried two sandwiches, while the other carried a bottle of milk.

Huang Ming and Liu Shuang'er operated the drones, sending them toward Building 2. Meanwhile, Gu Anqing messaged Lu Yusi.

"Yusi, what floor are you on? We're on our way with the drones. Open your window."

"1701."

Lu Yusi rushed to the window and opened it. A foul stench of blood and decay hit her, making her gag. If she had anything in her stomach, she might've vomited.

Before long, she spotted two drones approaching her window. Her eyes sparkled with excitement, as if she had been given a new lease on life.

"Yusi, grab the food quickly. We'll make a few more trips."

A few more trips? Lu Yusi was stunned.

She quickly took the food from the drones. Holding the sandwiches and the slightly warm bottle of milk, her throat tightened with emotion.

"Yusi, eat if you're hungry. He said that food is for you. He doesn't want you saving it and losing strength. He'd be upset if you did."

Lu Yisi's hands trembled as she held the food. Her eyes welled up with tears, overwhelmed by warmth and gratitude.

She couldn't hold back anymore. She tore open the sandwich wrapper and took big bites, nearly choking in her haste. She quickly opened the milk and gulped it down, feeling the warmth spread through her body.

For the first time, she realized how blissful a simple sandwich and milk could be. In the past, she had never been fond of such meals, but now she devoured every last crumb.

Huang Ming and Liu Shuang'er made six trips in total, delivering six portions of food—each consisting of a bottle of milk and two sandwiches.

After the deliveries, Huang Ming let out a long sigh of relief. This amount of food would keep Lu Yusi going for two more days.

"Yusi, eat when you're hungry. Let us know if you need more. I need to get back to work now. We'll contact you before we make our move. Oh, and don't tell anyone about this, okay?"

"Anqing, thank you. Go ahead and focus on your work. Don't worry—I won't say a word."
