Huang Ming was baffled by the barrage of messages.
He turned to Liu Shuang'er and asked, "Why does she think I can help her? Did that fatso Li Chang'an leak something?"
Liu Shuang'er pursed her lips.
"I know her. She's Zhou Ting, stunningly beautiful with a killer figure. She's a senior in the arts department, excelling in dance and music."
Zhou Ting's looks and figure were on par with Liu Shuang'er and Gu Anqing. Unfortunately, in the apocalypse, her talents in dance and music were useless.
In the past, Zhou Ting had been a campus celebrity, with a line of suitors chasing after her.
"So, should we bring her here too? Let her sing and dance for you?"
Liu Shuang'er was really pushing it today. Her jealousy wasn't just spilling over—it was shattering.
"Can you stop being so sour all the time? You know what kind of person I am. What use do I have for someone who sings and dances?"
As he spoke, Huang Ming shrugged his shoulders, trying to shake Liu Shuang'er's head off. But she clung to him like a limpet, unmoving.
"So, what are you going to do? A bunch of guys are eyeing her, especially Wang Gang. He's just waiting for her to give in."
Liu Shuang'er knew Huang Ming well, but she couldn't help feeling jealous. She pouted, her tone still dripping with acidity.
"Why do you think I can help you?"
Huang Ming ignored Liu Shuang'er and sent a message directly to Zhou Ting.
He felt the situation was delicate. Out of the blue, why would Zhou Ting think he could help her?
At that moment, Zhou Ting was curled up on her bed, staring blankly at her phone.
She had pinned all her hopes on Huang Ming, praying silently that he would reply soon.
Finally, she received his message.
But his tone felt cold. Still, she didn't mind. She quickly typed a reply, eager to establish a connection.
"Because I saw you bring back a girl late at night, and that guy Li Chang'an seems to be helping you too."
So, Zhou Ting had noticed him rescuing Gu Anqing that night! And she even recognized Li Chang'an!
"Explain."
Huang Ming replied with just two words, hoping she wouldn't hold anything back.
Zhou Ting wasn't stupid. She understood his intent and quickly recounted everything she knew from that night.
"That night, I was actually asleep, but I got up to use the bathroom and saw someone outside the window. So, I kept watching until I heard a gunshot."
So, Zhou Ting had heard the gunshot too. She even knew about Huang Ming's gun!
"This is bad. Even if we're not afraid of the others in the building, if Zhou Ting decides to expose everything, it'll cause unnecessary trouble. Li Chang'an would be the first to suffer," Liu Shuang'er said, her brow furrowed. She could tell Zhou Ting was no simple character.
Huang Ming nodded.
"Exactly. Not just people in our building, but others from different buildings might also turn against us."
"I think she's threatening you. This woman is cunning. She's an art student, after all—a real seductress."
Huang Ming understood Liu Shuang'er's point, but he didn't entirely agree. He could sense that Zhou Ting genuinely wanted his help, nothing more.
Before Huang Ming could respond, Liu Shuang'er read his mind again. She teased,
"You don't understand women. She's putting on an act for you. If you don't believe me, ask Anqing. Zhou Ting's no fool. She'll pretend to be sincere. Directly threatening you would be idiotic."
Huang Ming was stunned. So, she was a green tea girl! He almost fell for it!
But he quickly fell back into thought. Whether Zhou Ting was a green tea girl or not, whether she was threatening him or not, Huang Ming's priority was to prevent her from exposing his secrets.
With the intelligent zombie Li Qingya still lurking and Lu Yusi waiting for rescue, now wasn't the time for more complications.
In that case, he might as well help her. But he hadn't figured out how yet.
Bringing her home was out of the question. Zhou Ting wasn't like Liu Shuang'er or Gu Anqing. Even if she had skills to contribute, it would require careful consideration.
For a moment, Huang Ming was at a loss, feeling a headache coming on.
Just then, he felt a pair of soft hands massaging his temples.
He looked up to see Liu Shuang'er standing behind him, giving him a massage.
"Shuang'er! When did you learn to massage? This feels amazing!"
"I saw you thinking hard again, so I thought I'd help you relax."
Liu Shuang'er pressed rhythmically on Huang Ming's head, her strength just right. It was incredibly soothing and stress-relieving.
"By the way, I remember Zhou Ting has a best friend named Wang Xue. If you help her, does that mean you're helping two people? You'd better be clear about that. We can't raise ungrateful wolves who'll bite us later."
???
Buy one, get one free? Huang Ming wasn't happy about this. He quickly sent Zhou Ting another message.
"I remember you have a best friend, right? I'm no charity."
Zhou Ting understood Huang Ming's implication.
At this point, she didn't dare play games with him.
She quickly replied, "Wang Xue couldn't hold on anymore. She went to find Ma Tao this afternoon. Only I know about that night. Don't worry, I'm not threatening you, and I won't do anything stupid. I just want a meal."
Huang Ming asked another question:
"You know I have a gun. Aren't you afraid of me?"
Zhou Ting had moved from her bed to the couch. A faint smile played on her lips, and her eyes sparkled.
"Of course, I'm afraid. But what can I do? If you insist on that, I'll have to accept my fate. But I believe in your character. At least you haven't stooped to the level of those disgusting men in the group."
Liu Shuang'er, standing behind Huang Ming, rolled her eyes so hard they might've fallen out.
She spat out disdainfully, "What a green tea girl! She's just a vixen, itching to climb into your bed."
"You make a good point," Huang Ming said, scratching his head.
He sighed inwardly, "What was your mindset back then? How did I win you over so easily? Am I just a sucker?"
"Jerk... What do you take me for? I genuinely care about you. Don't overthink it!"
Liu Shuang'er, seeing Huang Ming's suspicious expression, immediately guessed what he was thinking. She stomped her feet in frustration, her face suddenly filled with委屈.
