Huang Ming watched as those crimson eyes vanished into the darkness. Not letting his guard down, he kept his pistol raised while slowly turning in a 360-degree circle, scanning his surroundings. At the same time, he radioed Gu Anqing.
"Anqing, what's the situation? Why did Li Qingya disappear?"
"Don't worry, you drove her off. I'm tracking her now—she's retreating toward Building 1."
"Keep an eye on her. The remaining zombies are just target practice for me."
Ending the call, Huang Ming relaxed slightly but remained cautious. With around a hundred zombies still converging, he couldn't afford carelessness. He turned to Lu Yusi.
"Senior, can you still run?"
Lu Yisi's face was pale with lingering fear.
She had seen those glowing red eyes right behind her and thought it was the end. But watching Huang Ming raise his pistol and drive the creature away had eased her tension—though her heart still pounded violently.
"Y-Yes, let's hurry!"
She patted her chest, trying to calm herself. Right now, she just wanted to reach Building 10 safely before catching her breath.
Huang Ming nodded and signaled Li Chang'an. The three of them sprinted toward Building 10.
Five minutes later, they arrived beneath its windows.
Huang Ming crouched. "Senior, step on my shoulders and climb in first."
Lu Yisi moved swiftly—clearly no stranger to physical activity—and vaulted inside.
But the moment she landed, her expression changed.
Through the window, she saw a sea of zombies surging toward them.
Li Chang'an's legs trembled at the sight. He raised his katana, ready to charge—
—only for Huang Ming to yank him back and kick him aside.
Without hesitation, Huang Ming raised his pistol.
**BANG! BANG! BANG!**
A full magazine emptied in seconds. The first ten zombies dropped.
With lightning speed, he reloaded and fired again.
He repeated this ten times until the ground was littered with corpses—piled up like stacked firewood.
At first, Huang Ming felt pressure. The zombies advanced faster than he could reload.
But by the fifth magazine, the tide turned. The rear zombies tripped over the growing mound of bodies, making them easy pickings.
So effortless was the slaughter that Huang Ming even waited for some to stand before shooting them again.
Lu Yisi had been about to close her eyes, unable to bear the brutality—
—but what she saw left her stunned.
Now she understood why Gu Anqing followed this handsome young man.
Her heart raced. *Superpowers?! That was...incredibly cool!*
Meanwhile, Liu Shuang'er, watching through the drone feed, rolled her eyes so hard they nearly got stuck.
Here she was, worried sick, while this little jerk treated it like a shooting game!
Gu Anqing also relaxed. Her drone's thermal imaging confirmed Li Qingya had retreated into Building 1.
"Ming, you're insane!" Li Chang'an exclaimed. "How many mags do you even have?! I really thought we were done for!"
"Enough flattery. Get inside already."
Huang Ming kicked him toward the window. Li Chang'an scrambled in obediently.
Learning from last time, Huang Ming scanned the area thoroughly before jumping in one-handed, pistol still drawn.
Safety first—anything tried to ambush him, it'd eat lead.
Fortunately, no surprises awaited him this time.
Landing smoothly, he addressed Lu Yisi and Li Chang'an.
"Let's go."
Inside the elevator, Huang Ming pressed floors 15, 17, 20, and 25—a precaution against potential stalkers.
Turning to Li Chang'an, he warned, "That commotion drew attention. Stay alert on your way back. The girls in the building are getting bold—don't fall for any traps."
"Don't worry, Ming! I'll be careful."
Soon, the elevator reached the 15th floor.
Huang Ming and Lu Yisi stepped out, entering the apartment after he unlocked the heavy metal door.
The moment it closed behind them, Huang Ming removed his helmet and exhaled deeply—
—only for Liu Shuang'er to come sprinting over and throw herself into his arms.
Yet another campus belle asserting her claim.
Huang Ming sighed but didn't push her away, simply patting her head. If she needed to mark her territory, so be it.
The scene left Lu Yisi awkwardly standing by, unsure how to react.
Gu Anqing, familiar with Liu Shuang'er's antics, remained unfazed—though her cheeks pinkened slightly when she glanced at Huang Ming.
Gently disentangling himself, Huang Ming said, "Shuang'er, make something warm for Senior Lu. I'm going to wash up."
"Mm, go ahead."
Gu Anqing had already taken Lu Yisi's hand, leading her to the dining table.
"Yisi, we're family now. Don't mind Shuang'er—she's always been blunt."
"I understand. But earlier...those red eyes chasing us...if he hadn't shot it..."
Lu Yisi shuddered, her chest still heaving from the adrenaline.
"We saw everything through the drones. Do you know who that zombie was?"
Lu Yisi blinked. "You...know it?"
Gu Anqing smiled mysteriously. "So do you."
"Me?!"
"It was Professor Li Qingya. A mutated intelligent zombie. From our observations, she can control ordinary zombies and possesses human-like cunning."
Pausing, she added gravely, "And bullets don't seem to kill her. I watched Ming shoot her point-blank, yet she escaped. You're the only one who might figure out why."
