Sophia woke up feeling restless, her skin still tingling from the night before. Lucian. His presence outside her window had been so real, yet he had vanished like a shadow.
She sat up in bed, hugging her knees. What do you want from me?
Her mind was in turmoil, but she pushed it aside as she got ready for school. She couldn't let her thoughts consume her.
At school, she moved through the halls as if everything was normal, but she could feel him. Somewhere. Watching.
Ann nudged her. "You good? You've been acting weird since prom night."
Sophia forced a smile. "Just tired."
Ann gave her a skeptical look but didn't push.
The moment Sophia walked into chemistry class, her body tensed. Lucian was there. Sitting at the back.
Her heart skipped.
Ryan appeared beside her, wrapping an arm around her waist. A habit. But today, it felt different.
Lucian's gaze snapped to Ryan's hand. A chill crept up Sophia's spine.
"Since when do you take chemistry?" Ryan asked Lucian.
Lucian leaned back lazily, his eyes never leaving Sophia. "Since today."
Sophia swallowed. He was here. In her class.
The whole period, she couldn't focus. Every time she glanced back, Lucian was already looking at her.
It was unbearable.
When the bell rang, Sophia rushed outside. She needed air.
But Lucian was faster.
He grabbed her wrist, pulling her into the empty hallway.
"Let go," she whispered.
His fingers didn't budge. "Tell me, Sophia," he murmured, "do you feel it yet?"
Her lips parted. "Feel what?"
Lucian tilted his head, studying her.
"The pull," he said softly. "The truth. That you belong to me."
Sophia's breath hitched. No.
Her pulse hammered as Lucian slowly raised a hand, his fingertips brushing against her cheek. His touch was electric.
She should pull away. Run.
But she didn't.
Lucian's lips parted as if he was about to say more—but then, a voice cut through the air.
"Hey!"
Ryan.
Lucian sighed, stepping back.
Sophia didn't know whether to feel relieved… or disappointed.
But one thing was certain.
This was only the beginning.
