Sophia barely made it through the rest of the day. Lucian was everywhere.
Not just physically—his presence wrapped around her like a second skin, a constant, suffocating awareness. She could feel his eyes on her, burning through every moment, every breath.
This was madness.
Yet, the worst part? A small, dangerous part of her liked it.
As she walked to her locker, Ryan appeared beside her. "Hey, I was thinking—maybe we can go to The Haven tonight? Just us."
She knew what he meant. Their spot.
Before she could answer, the air shifted. A cold breeze. A presence.
She turned—and there he was. Lucian. Leaning against the row of lockers, arms crossed, watching.
Ryan tensed beside her. "Do you need something?"
Lucian's gaze never left Sophia. "Yes."
Her breath caught.
Ryan stepped forward, standing between them. "Maybe you should back off."
Lucian finally acknowledged him, his expression unreadable. "And why would I do that?"
Tension crackled. A storm about to break.
Sophia forced a nervous laugh. "Guys, can we not do this right now?"
Lucian's lips twitched. "Of course." But his eyes still held her hostage.
Ryan scoffed. "Come on, Soph." He grabbed her hand, pulling her down the hallway.
Lucian didn't stop them. But she felt him, still.
The whole drive to The Haven, Sophia's mind was racing. Lucian had shown up at her school. He was watching her. But why?
As she and Ryan walked through the forest clearing to their usual spot, Sophia couldn't shake the feeling of being followed.
Then, just as Ryan leaned in—his lips inches from hers—a deep voice shattered the night.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you."
Sophia's heart stopped.
