Jacob, as he looked up and saw them, felt a sharp pain pierce his heart.
Mousse, noticing the change in his friend’s expression, immediately put down his fork.
— Hey... do you want to leave? he asked, trying to shield Jacob from the painful sight.
Jacob hesitated for a moment, his eyes fixed on Gloria, before shaking his head slightly.
— No. Why run away? I’m fine, he replied, his voice barely betraying the storm raging inside him.
But despite his words, the presence of Gloria and Samson just a few tables away only fueled the turmoil of emotions Jacob had been trying to suppress all day.
Gloria, although she had noticed Jacob in the restaurant, continued to immerse herself in her conversation with Samson. She laughed heartily, her gaze fixed on her companion, as if the world around them didn’t exist. Samson seemed just as relaxed, responding to her affection with knowing smiles. They placed their order and started eating, exchanging tender glances and gestures.
