Chapter 12

Cécilia cast frantic glances toward the window, watching Mousse step out of his car. Every second felt like an eternity. She could feel the weight of her actions pressing down on her, and the fear of being discovered consumed her.

— Why didn’t you tell me he’d be coming back this early in the morning? retorted Cédric, just as panicked, as he searched for his clothes scattered across the room.

— This isn’t the time to argue! You need to leave now, or he’s going to find out everything! Cécilia continued, her hands trembling as she grabbed Cédric’s clothes and threw them at him.

She started thinking quickly, searching for a solution. The front door was too risky Mousse could walk in at any moment. Cédric only had a few seconds to slip away unnoticed.

— Go through the back door! she whispered urgently. I’ll create a diversion.
