Chapter 23: Confused Hearts

Seraphina stayed the night in my room, I also helped her take care of Quillan. Every now and then, we take turns in making sure that we replace the wet cloth on his head and keep his temperature monitored.

The concoction she made had already taken up its effects and it made Quillan’s fever cool down a bit. It’s almost dawn and I haven’t slept a wink. Seraphina told me to take a rest and she watched over him on her own, but I insisted. I can’t sleep knowing that there are people inside my room who are not feeling well.

I sat on the floor, at the bedside, staring at Quillan. My arms are crossed on the mattress and my chin resting on top, while Seraphina is sitting on the single chair.

“How are you these days, dear?” The old woman broke the silence between us. I know she’s asking me how I am taking all the information I have learned regarding my kinship.
