“Being nice is not going to keep them safe, nor will they be able to solve any cases if we keep them soft.” Emily quickly moved away, as did Ana, as they both watched the young ones come over to put the body of Liam Foster in a black-colored bag before transferring him to a long white stretcher and moving him out of the room.
Both of their eyes followed the body. Emily and Ana came out of the room to wash. Two young nurses helped to remove the scrubs from their bodies as they moved to wash their hands.
“Bodies fall, some with natural causes of death and some with murder. We have so many to check; if I keep on baby-feeding them every time, there will not be any cases solved. I have to push them if they are not doing it by themselves.” Emily went over to get dressed for another case.
The stretcher was taken in front of them inside the room. The body was cleaned for the procedure. It was a woman who had blond hair; her skin was a light olive color due to the skin getting cold.
“Those souls have already left the body. We keep lagging down to train these young ones; we are not going to get anywhere.” Emily was not screaming, but her voice had a tone that said.
‘This discussion is over.’
Ana sighed at this and entered the room behind her. Unknown to both of them, another figure was standing on the other side of the lab. Samantha took the right door to enter, and Alex took the other one. There were two doors, one for the employees of the police station and the other one for the medical staff only. Alex would take access from this door from time to time. This time he was getting impatient with his assistant and decided to visit the lab all by himself instead. However, this one came just as Samantha left. He only got the time to enter through the first door and had to stand aside watching a bag leave the room. He heard Emily’s words. His eyes stayed glued to the glass door for a while before his feet took a turn and left the place.

Blythe has watched the secured place for some time now. Her mouth was covered with a woolen scarf. Her glasses could see the crime scene from the other side of the road. She stayed still on the other side to avoid interaction with anyone. She pulled the cuffs of her sweater to open her hand. She took out the gloves and started to type on her phone. A bionic arm might get detected by someone from the group. Thus, she tried to stay as far as possible. Her circular glasses were getting foggy, and she was taking them out to clean again and again.
Snow had not fallen yet, but the wind was blowing hard; it was cold enough for the hand to feel icy. City X mostly sees the rain in the winter. There is hardly a sign of the sun, and if lucky, they can see the snow. It is a humid and moist city, which is not favorable for any vegetation. Most of the mechanical industry can be seen in this city, and the best medical hospitals are here. Blythe bites the bottom of her lips as she stays still, standing close to the wall of the brick-layered building. She seemed like one of the bystanders, just curious about the chaos.
It took some time, but to Blythe’s luck, the final reporter left the scene. She expected it to be evening before the last one left. The police felt as if a big burden had been lifted. Blythe knew those reporters would be back in the morning again to get more news. Now, they left only because the detectives are no longer here.
“I wonder where they are going now. The police station maybe.” Blythe chuckled as she pushed herself from the wall and made a move. She wished to take this chance to gather some intel. A few words were recorded, and a bit of the pictures taken were good enough for her.
Her fingers pressed the buttons to open the recording option on the phone as she went closer to one of the guards close to the yellow tape. Her movement was noticed by multiple of them. The casual walk was not something one would see in a reporter.
‘But who would understand those crazy beings, right?’ Officer Jamie Bennett thought he was the first one to notice the girl. Her beanie cap only covered the top part of her head. The rest of her hair was spread out on her back like a mat. Jamie noticed her features first. He frowned, thinking all sorts of things, but the girl was walking towards him, so there could be no problem, at least for now.
“Excuse me, ma’am, this place is off-limits to civilians.” He raised a hand and motioned her to stop. Blythe sighs as she approaches the yellow tape. Her head nodded to show she understood his words.
“I am not just any civilian officer.” Her hand reached for her pocket as she took out her ID card to show the officer.
“I am Blythe Throne from CityBeat24/7.” Jamie checked the ID and turned to see her face.
Blythe tugged on the woolen scarf to show her face. “I am the senior editor of the channel. I would like to ask some questions if possible.”
Jamie frowns as he watches her pocket the ID back. CityBeat24/7 gets special privileges according to the mayor of City X. They can move around for reports, all thanks to Selena Dawn.
“I thought the reporter already came for CityBeat 24/7. Why are you here then?”Jamie placed his hand on the small black radio on his shoulders.
“Has any reporter arrived for the CityBeat24/7? There is someone here asking for an interview.” Blythe could not hear anything from the other side as the wireless speaker was on his ears.
He nodded his head at the words from the com. “Alright, I understand.”
He turned to face Blythe.
“They are telling me that the cameraman from CityBeat was already here. So, why are you here now?” Blythe sighed, her head nodding in agreement to his words as it nodded with every word he said, but her eyes were looking at the floor. She waited for Jamie to finish talking. This is something she has to endure sometimes.
“The reporters sometimes miss out on the important subjects; thus, I walk around to get more information. I am one of the senior editors in the channel.”She expected him to understand since this is not the first time this has happened.
Blythe has done this before. She walked around to get information after all the rush was over in the past as well. However, Jamie was silent; he did not understand her words. Blythe twisted her lips.
“I thought I didn’t see you before. Officer, are you new in this city?” Jamie hesitated to answer right then and there, but he nodded in the next moment.
“This is my first case in this city, but I am not a recruit, if that is what you are implying.”
Blythe nodded again. “Things work differently with CityBeat officers. The main video always goes early, as the viewers want breaking news, but in the rush, it is natural to miss out on important facts. Even early in the cases, there is not much found by the officers as well. So, they send people like me to gather more information after the rush is over.”
“If that is so, shouldn’t you be in the station, ma’am? This place has nothing more to offer than what is already given. Also, I cannot let you in. If that is what you are trying to do.” Blythe shook her head with the last statement.
“All I need is statements from you, officer. That is all.”
