Chapter 91: Super Disciple 1.0 – Huo Quan, Part 1
A warm feeling passed through Huo Rui's heart. Although she had long accepted her father's early death, the pain lingered. The nurturing care her master and Ah Yin provided, despite being only a few years her senior, strengthened her resolve. These so called "immortal herb essences" must have taken them great effort to collect over the past six months. Given their precious nature and value, it moved her to realize they shared them without hesitation. She vowed to repay them, determined not to let her master and Ah Yin down.
Taking a deep breath, she drank the second bottle. Unlike the warmth she had felt before, this one brought a wave of coolness that spread through her meridians. With renewed focus, she guided her spirit power to refine and absorb the herb's energy. Her skin took on a subtle, radiant quality, with a slight jade like translucency.
After refining the Jade Water Narcissus essence, Huo Rui could feel her cultivation speed significantly accelerate. It was almost as though she had been gifted the speed of an innate full spirit power wielder. While her previous training in her master's "Ice Chamber Technique" had helped her match the speed of innate full spirit power, this new rate was astonishing.
Ah Yin, visibly relieved at Huo Rui's success, looked kindly at Huo Quan. A sense of foreboding gripped him as he saw her approach.
"Don't worry, Master gave me a special cultivation method to help refine the herbs together," he reassured himself, attempting to push away his fears. But the sight of Ah Yin's supportive yet intense gaze caused his heart to pound with anxiety.
"Master prepared two essences for you to take simultaneously before you submerge yourself in the pool," Ah Yin explained. "Unlike your sister, your body can withstand much more pressure, so you'll need both herbs to push your spirit to the limit and achieve your awakening."
Reluctant but resolved, Huo Quan felt a shiver of fear. Already the idea of enduring a near drowning experience seemed daunting, and now he had to integrate two powerful immortal essences at once. The mere thought of the resulting energy surge was overwhelming.
Ah Yin sensed his hesitation and reached into her storage ring, pulling out a small manual. "Here, this is 'The Dual Balance Meditation,' which your master developed specifically for handling such powerful essences. It will help you harmonize the two energies in your body and refine them to their fullest."
Taking the manual, Huo Quan noted its complexity and precision, marveling at his master's creation. Accepting two jade bottles from Ah Yin, he stared at the vivid red and blue liquids within, feeling a flicker of doubt. These were the diluted essences of the Blazing Apricot and the Octagonal Ice Grass two extreme substances that, individually, would be toxic. Only by using the precise meditation technique could he balance them within his body, achieving a tempered physique resistant to heat and cold alike.
With a steely resolve, Huo Quan declared, "I can do this."
Taking both essences at once, he was hit by an overwhelming sensation of heat and cold that nearly froze his nerves. Desperate to stay focused, he began practicing the Dual Balance Meditation, urging the conflicting energies to stabilize. Soon, his body emitted flickering blue and red hues, signaling the delicate balance he maintained between the two essences.
In control at last, he staggered to the edge of the pool and threw himself into the icy water, feeling its chill even more acutely against his inflamed skin. The blue and red lights from the pool intensified, as though locked in a fierce battle below the surface.
Watching from the edge, Huo Rui's expression was one of worry. "Ah Yin, will he be alright?"
"Don't worry, your brother's body is stronger than any of your fellow disciples. Master tailored the essence doses for him precisely. While challenging, his survival isn't in question. However," she added, chuckling lightly, "if he fails to endure, he might find himself in a month of grueling training as punishment."
As she chuckled, a certain image of Huo Quan's exhausted form flashed in her mind, recalling his earlier punishment training.
At that moment, Ye Wen and Dao Ba entered the chamber, observing the changes in the pool's colors.
"Master," Huo Rui greeted respectfully before stepping back to observe.
Ye Wen nodded. "How did it go, Huo Rui?"
"Master, I was successful. My martial spirit has undergone an unprecedented golden level awakening, and I feel my strength is now two and a half times what it once was," she replied confidently.
Though not quite the rumored threefold strength increase of a golden awakening, it was still an impressive feat. Having reached such a pinnacle, her martial spirit deserved a new name.
"Have you considered renaming your martial spirit? Calling it simply a 'heart spirit' no longer feels accurate," Ye Wen suggested.
After a moment of thought, Huo Rui replied, "Let's call it the Heart of Diamond."
Satisfied with the name's aptness, Ye Wen nodded approvingly. "The Heart of Diamond it is," he declared.
