Chapter 92: Super Disciple 1.0 – Huo Quan, Part 2
At the bottom of the pool, Huo Quan appeared to reach his critical point. The previously regular blue and red glow began to flash more intensely, with a faint hint of gold flickering within.
"It looks like it's working," Ye Wen muttered, watching closely.
Absorbing the essences of Blazing Apricot and Octagonal Ice Grass directly would normally be lethal, even to a Title Douluo. In the original story, Tang San managed it only with the help of the extreme environment of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, which allowed the energies to be harmonized within his body. However, while this technique strengthened Tang San's physical body, it had little impact on his spirit power or martial soul, leaving him only with immunity to fire and ice.
Ye Wen, however, had a different idea, one inspired by Du Busi from Soul Land 2, another user of a body based martial soul. Du Busi had managed to turn his own body into a living weapon by combining toxic attributes into his spirit rings, maximizing the innate power of his martial soul.
If Huo Quan could undergo his second awakening while absorbing the extremes of fire and ice, it could not only amplify his physical power but might also bestow his martial soul with fire and ice attributes. If the process failed, he would still benefit from a strengthened foundation due to his body based martial soul's inherent resilience.
At that moment, golden light burst from the bottom of the pool, overshadowing the blue and red glow.
"Quickly, pull Huo Quan out!" Ye Wen instructed.
With impressive speed, Ah Yin extended her Blue Silver Grass into the pool, pulling an unconscious Huo Quan to the surface. His body glowed faintly with a golden aura, resembling the fabled Golden Vajra Arhat, while a towering figure stood behind him, radiating an aura of unshakable strength and dignity.
But then, his body began to twitch, and the powerful physique he had developed started to shrink visibly.
"Huo Rui, quickly!" Ah Yin called, retrieving a vial of essence from her ring. The liquid, derived from the Eight Petaled Immortal Orchid, had been prepared specifically for this moment, its properties capable of replenishing vital energy and restoring his depleted strength. Originally intended for Oscar in the story, its properties perfectly suited Huo Quan's current needs.
Upon receiving the essence, Huo Quan's physical regression ceased, and his muscular build gradually returned to its prior size. Soon, he opened his eyes, revealing two glints one red and the other blue that brightened the dim underground space.
"How do you feel, Huo Quan? How has the second awakening enhanced your martial soul?" Ye Wen inquired.
Still in a daze, Huo Quan sat up, clenching his fists and testing his strength. "I feel...incredible! Every part of my body feels three times stronger than before. And because of the two extreme essences, my martial soul has developed dual attributes: ultimate fire and ultimate ice."
Ye Wen's expression registered amazement. Neither the Blazing Apricot nor the Octagonal Ice Grass essences had reached a hundred thousand year potency, and even the doses Huo Quan absorbed had been diluted. He had expected Huo Quan's body to absorb some high level enhancements, but the attainment of ultimate attributes for both ice and fire was beyond his estimation.
"Release your fire and ice," Ye Wen instructed. "Let me confirm your power."
Without hesitation, Huo Quan summoned his newfound powers. Flames, as brilliant as blood, ignited in his left hand, while his right hand radiated a bone chilling frost. The water droplets clinging to his hand instantly froze, shattering as they fell to the ground.
The biting cold reminded Ye Wen of the intense cold of the northern arctic, nearly on par with the presence of the Snow Empress. The heat from Huo Quan's flames, meanwhile, was similarly overwhelming, evoking a sense of standing near a powerful sun. The contrasting forces radiated from Huo Quan in a way that seemed almost surreal.
"It's confirmed," Ye Wen said, awestruck. "You truly possess both ultimate ice and ultimate fire attributes. Even at your current level, you could overwhelm spirit emperors with similar attributes."
Ye Wen then broke into a warm smile. "Congratulations, Huo Quan. You've completed a golden level second awakening of your body based martial soul. With these dual ultimate attributes, your potential is limitless, and you're sure to reach the pinnacle of the continent."
"All thanks to your guidance, Master," Huo Quan replied humbly.
"Your sister has named her newly awakened martial soul 'Heart of Diamond.' How about renaming yours to reflect its newfound strength?"
Huo Quan took a moment, considering thoughtfully before answering. "Then... let's call it the 'Ice Fire Golden Body.'"
Simple but fitting, the name was well received by those present. This second awakening had marked a transformative moment for Ye Wen's three strongest disciples, each now prepared to seek their fourth and fifth spirit rings.
While Dao Ba would require a lightning attributed beast for his martial soul, which would be challenging to source along the coast, the Huo siblings already had clear targets in mind for their hunts.
Ye Wen felt a surge of pride and gratitude as he regarded his three disciples, now far stronger than before, each with their potential honed and abilities sharpened. Their achievements marked not only a personal success but a testament to the training he had tailored for them.
