The sudden appearance of this diary on his desk made Nick Fury's eyelids twitch.
This was outrageous!
As Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., he was one of the most well-informed mortals in the world. Aliens, werewolves, vampires, mutants—nothing phased him.
But he had never encountered anyone who could deliver an object like this directly to his desk.
He immediately called in agents to scan the office, but despite their thorough search, no surveillance devices or anything unusual was found. Even those agents who were skilled in mysterious witchcraft found no trace of the supernatural.
After half a day, Nick Fury finally instructed everyone to leave. With a deep sigh, he picked up the diary and began to read.
The moment his eyes landed on the words, his heartbeat almost stopped.
"June 6th: The weather is fine today, waiting for the first day of Tony Stark's kidnapping!"
"June 7th: The weather is cloudy today, waiting for the day after Tony Stark was kidnapped!"
"June 8th: Waiting for the third day of Tony Stark's kidnapping. Luo Chen, Luo Chen, you can't continue to degenerate. You have to work hard! Struggle! Wait for Tony Stark to be kidnapped, buy some stocks at a low price, and sell them once he turns to new energy. Then, I'll earn my living expenses. Who needs to work hard?"
"June 9th: I suddenly remembered that an alien traveler like me should have attracted the attention of the Ancient One... probably not. Even if something changed, it should be Kang who comes to me first..."
Who is Tony Stark? Everyone knows him, especially considering his father, a founder of S.H.I.E.L.D. He was a veteran of the organization.
Tony Stark's safety was, in fact, a matter S.H.I.E.L.D. took quite seriously, even if Tony wasn't aware of it. They'd quietly neutralized some threats against him.
But here, in this diary, Luo Chen was waiting for Tony Stark to be kidnapped.
An astonishing realization hit Nick Fury.
Alien traveler?
The mention of Tony Stark's situation immediately reminded him of the time traveler concept, with names like the Ancient One and Kang embedded deeply in his mind.
Yet, he realized that these figures didn't appear to exist in the super-powered world he knew.
He continued reading, and the more he read, the stranger it became. References to Spider-Man and Spider-Woman appeared.
Nick Fury was certain there was no Spider-Man or Spider-Woman in this world.
He knew far more than Tony Stark, including the existence of certain supervillains. Concepts like Spider-Man and Spider-Woman didn't surprise him—but then he encountered the notion of parallel universes.
The 1999 universe—was that the name of their universe? And the concept of parallel universes?
Nick Fury had only a passing understanding of parallel universes. In the scientific community, it was just a theoretical concept—speculative, but never proven. However, the idea of parallel universes now stood before him in black and white.
Parallel universes!
Counterparts from other worlds!
Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy, Tony Stark!
And Tony Stark's Mark Armor!
Standing shoulder to shoulder with a god despite being mortal!
Superheroes. The explosion of supercriminals.
The Marvel world—and everything that came with it. It was a flood of information, bombarding Nick Fury's mind and leaving him speechless.
The amount of data in this diary was staggering. The first-generation and second-generation Iron Man suits, an array of superheroes, supervillains, and much more—it was almost too much to process.
Nick Fury took a deep breath, attempting to absorb the torrent of information.
Was there really a parallel universe? No, that wasn't the key point!
The real revelation from the diary was far more mind-blowing: their world might be a story—a movie universe, in fact.
It even mentioned Robert Downey Jr., the actor who played Tony Stark.
How could this not be shocking? His entire understanding of the world was crumbling.
I'm just a character? A character? Nick Fury's thoughts raced as he tried to make sense of this new reality. His entire worldview was collapsing. This wasn't just dramatic; it was a complete shift in his understanding of existence.
The idea that their world was a story, and that the superheroes and villains were mere characters in that narrative—his brain struggled to grasp it.
So, no wonder! No wonder!
Nick Fury suddenly had an epiphany. He knew more than Tony Stark, and suddenly all the things that had confused him before clicked into place.
"For example, Hulk and Abomination—they should be the protagonist and the villain in a story!" he thought, connecting the dots. Based on what he knew about the Hulk, it wasn't hard to figure out. The green titan Hulk was a superhero—representing justice—while the Abomination, who thrived on destruction, was clearly a supervillain.
This wasn't hard to guess; even Tony Stark could have deduced it with the limited information he had. But Nick Fury knew far more. After all, the Hulk was one of the members he planned to recruit into the Avengers, and Dr. Bruce Banner was already under S.H.I.E.L.D.'s watchful eye.
The military had been unable to locate Bruce Banner, and it was S.H.I.E.L.D. that had been quietly erasing his traces.
According to Nick Fury's knowledge, Bruce Banner had been a renowned physicist who, after a military experiment gone wrong, turned into the Hulk. The Abomination, a monstrous creature, was another result of the military's attempts to replicate the Hulk's abilities.
It was all too dramatic—a series of coincidences that seemed almost too fantastical to be true.
But now, with everything he'd learned, it made perfect sense. Perhaps it wasn't just dramatic—it was drama in the truest sense!
He also remembered some other figures, like Daredevil, the hero from Queens, and his opponent, the underground emperor of New York, Kingpin.
This, too, seemed to follow the familiar pattern of superheroes versus supervillains.
