Chapter 10

Mr Ross

Sometimes I feel bad for Lily. She watches other moms drop off their kids at school while she is usually dropped off by a mere driver. Nobody walks into school with her. No one gives her a peck on the cheek and wishes her a wonderful day.

Seeing Mia hold Lily's hand brings warmth to my heart. I don't know what they are up to but whatever it is has given my daughter, a friend.

Mia squats down and gives Lily a hug. Lily looks as shocked as I feel. However, she doesn't pull away but she doesn't put her hands around Mia either. I feel a pang in my heart knowing that my daughter is not used to affection by a female figure.

Mia releases her but continues holding her hand. It looks like they are about to enter the school. Maybe nothing is happening today. I am about to turn away when I see that they are both walking towards the direction of a blond woman with a little girl. Do they want to talk to her? I resume my stance to see what is going to happen.

I was wrong. They weren't going over to talk. They went over to start a fight. Mia, to be precise. Mia could have moved aside and just entered the door with Lily. Instead, she used her shoulder to push the woman against the door resulting in making the woman's head hit the door.

The scene that starts to unfold in front of me is both amusing and worrying because of how well Mia can act. What?!

The woman's squeal fills the parking lot and immediately attracts a crowd. I move closer to see properly.

"How dare you push me, you dirty pig?!". She points a finger at Mia. Instead of screaming as the woman back as I expected, she wears an apologetic and almost teary expression. If I didn't know this was an act, I would have given her a hug with how sorry she looked.

"I'm so sorry ma'am. I think I may have spoilt your nose job. I really didn't mean to ma'am". She definitely increased her voice at the nose job part. I almost laugh at her antics. She trying to rile the woman up that's for sure.

The woman takes a step towards her menacingly and Mia takes a step backwards as if she's scared. Damn, this girl is doing the wrong thing for a living.

"I didn't have any nose job done! Stop speaking rubbish with your dirty mouth!".

"I'm so sorry if I've offended you ma'am. It's just that I know that rich middle aged women like to have perfect noses. I'm so sorry". The anger in her gaze intensifies.

"What do you mean bitch? I'm not old! Shut your fucking mouth!". A number of mothers in the parking lot put their hands over their children's ears.

Has this woman forgotten that she is in the parking lot of a middle school? Her daughter is even right beside her.

"What are you?!". She looks down as if she is scared to answer.

"I.. I... I'm Lily's nanny". She still keep my eyes trained on the floor.

This woman keeps on amazing me. Not having anything more to say, I just keep quiet and watch the drama.

"So a dirty nanny now has the guts to exchange words and even push me? Are you kidding me? Who allows these type of people here?". The fuck?!

Mia's expression changes immediately and she becomes confrontational.

"What do you mean by "type of people"? It's very clear that you are a racist! Are you guys hearing her?". Murmurs spread through the crowd. It is now clear that her aim us to destroy this woman's reputation in the eyes of everyone. But why? I know that she couldn't have met her before to abhour any grudge against her. The only link could be..... Lily.

"Oh please! You just want some attention. That's how you guys even get your jobs. With your pity party. Guess what? I don't care". Ok this woman is definitely a fool. That is no way to counter a racist accusation especially when there are a number of black folks in the crowd and attending this school. A few of them are even very influential in the society. I hope for her sake that she has a powerful husband.

"Oh really? You are just a really bitter woman. But what was I even expecting from someone like you who can spread bad rumours about a little child?". The murmurs in the crowd increase and even some mothers bring out their phone.

Did this woman do something to my Lily? Rage starts to spread in my veins. If this woman is the reason my daughter is a tad bit uncomfortable in school, I will not spare her.

"When did I ever spread any rumour about a child? I don't know what this thing is saying!". It's clear from her facial expression that she knows what she's talking about and she's panicking.

"Oh! I must be mistaken about the fact that you told your daughter that Lily killed her mother and of course because your daughter is just as disgusting as you, she went ahead to spread that in class. Am I wrong about the whole thing?". A lot of people have gathered by now and phones are being held up. They all have angry expressions and a sly smile pops up on Mia's face.

That woman said such a thing about my daughter? I bring out my phone and take a picture of the woman and her daughter. I send the picture to Elvis, my private detective, with the narration 'find out everything about her'.

Well, my job is done here. I am about to leave when I hear the sound of a palm hitting flesh. I look up to see Mia holding her cheek and looking hella dangerous.

The woman smiles at Mia feeling pleased with herself. Mia takes off her hand bag and gives it to Lily. As she slowly walks up to the woman, she tries to put up a strong facade but standing there but I can see how afraid she is.

Judging by the murderous expression on Mia's face, the woman won't even know what hit her. Literally.
