Chapter 6: The boys get their Karna

It has been 2 years since Jennifer and Tina left for Celestial Academy. Throughout this time Samuel did not waste time with his experiments. It all went pretty smoothly with very few complications. Amongst last year's awakening students, 10 students came from their club.

It was another spectacle as those 10 students awakened stronger than average karna. While no one got a 10-star Karna. The majority of them received 4 to 5-star karnas with 2 people getting 6-star Karnas. This brought a lot of media attention to the school. Yet their secret club remained hidden.

Samuel, his friends and Jack assessed the people from the club that awakened. The first difference that was obvious between the club members and other students was the knowledge of fictional stories and concepts. From magic to mythical creatures the club members know about things the general public doesn't know or even really think about. In a society dictated by science and evidence, the thought of unscientific concepts was looked down upon. It was associated with the behavior of imaginative children. So most people found it useless and childish to think of such fantastical things.

The fact that no existing media even showed such fantasy or unscientific things made the people within the federation particularly dull when it came to their imagination. The group eventually hit a wall in their research. All the club members that awakened had access to the same content so why is it that some get stronger Karnas than others?

At first, they thought that maybe the difference was caused by the amount of content they consumed. That theory was quickly proven wrong. Amongst the club members with Karnas, the person who had read played and consumed the most content amongst them only received a 4-star Karna.

After a while of investigation, they finally found a possible answer. The club members that have manifested 6-star Karnas and above like Tina and Jennifer all shared a very high passion for these fictional stories. They would talk about it often and even think of multiple possibilities of how abilities or mythical stories work. To put it simply they were very imaginative and open-minded to the concepts of the impossible.

Yet those that got lower star Karna lacked that imaginative spark. While they did watch and read various stories they did not particularly take it to heart. It was not something they would talk about much once they weren't actively watching or reading them. While the knowledge of these things gave them higher stared Karna than most people their lack of imagination and creativity was the main difference between them on those like Jennifer and Tina.

For now, these were only theories, but Samuel and those who thought of it found that it made weirdly a lot of sense. Today was the day that Samuel's year of students would get their Karna. It Is easy to say that this would be the best day to prove their theories. Everyone was excited they all could not wait to see what abilities they would receive.

Within a particular classroom room Samuel, Blessed, Billy and Rick could be seen the excitement in their eyes was clear for all to see. " Hey guys you don't think that the principal will have a heart attack this year…will he?" Billy said with a playful smile on his face. " Who knows for sure. But all I can say is that today will make it into the history books." Samuel said with confidence. The others agreed with his words and the simple reason for that was that today all secret club members were going to get their Karna.

It might not seem like a big deal at first but when you take into account that all 10th-grade students of High Cliffs High School are part of the secret club. It becomes a very big deal. Samuel and the others had thought about something, the fact that the federations had not let the public know of fantasy or religious concepts. Would most likely mean they know its relationship with the star level of a Karna.

That means that the reason why the royalty and other influential families within the federation constantly produce powerful Karna users. Has to be largely due to them having access to such knowledge. So logically when an unusually high number of powerful Karnas appear from a public high school 2 years in a row, it will naturally get their attention. The only way for Samuel and his friends to get their Karna without much suspicion would be to make it so that too many people awaken strong Karnas. This way the federation would have no lead on them as the suspicion that would have been focused on their small group would now be placed on 300 plus students.

As the class kept talking about the upcoming ceremony. The classroom door opened as their teacher and a soldier walked into the room. "Alright everyone this is Officer Marlin. She is the military officer in charge of our class. She will be recording everything that will happen and recruiting any talented users among you. Please welcome her." Their teacher said. Samuel and his friends quickly noticed that something was up with this soldier. Her uniform was of a higher rank than those of the usual soldiers seen in the past 2 years. Someone of her rank would usually be the one in charge of the whole ceremony and the realm tunnel.

The class then greeted the soldier all together "Good morning Officer Marlin" she nodded her head in satisfaction. The students were polite and respectful in their greeting. " It's good to meet you all. I will be in charge of your class. So let's all do our best so that we get through the ceremony without any troubles. As long as none of you cause any trouble we will get along well. Now follow me" Officer Marlin said as she led the students out.

Samuel and the others followed the officer's lead and soon they reached the auditorium. They quickly realized that this ceremony might be more serious than they thought. The whole school had 7 classes of 40 plus grade 10 students. Each class was led by an officer of similar uniform to the one in front of them. Samuel looked around the auditorium and noticed that the number of soldiers stationed at their school this year was nearly triple that of previous years.

The principal gave the soldier beside him the go-ahead to perform the ceremony. The man stepped forward his high-ranking military uniform displayed for all to see. This was no ordinary soldier " My name is Captain James Blackthorn. It is a pleasure to be in charge of assisting you young talents in manifesting your Karna." Said the man with short black hair and piercing brown eyes.

'shit, it's a captain.' The boys all thought at the same time as they looked at each other. Billy's eyes showed clear panic as they had never expected that a captain would come to their school. And to make things worse Captain James Blackthorn is a royal. That alone made this ceremony a thousand times more dangerous. Samuel discreetly gestures at his friends to calm down. They all regained their calm and tried to behave normally.

Luckily for them, the appearance of Captain James was also a shock to everyone. Many people panicked so their reaction was very normal. Had they acted calmly they might have garnered the suspicion of the soldiers.

Every royal family rules a planet within the federation territory some share planets but for Earth, it is ruled by the king's royal family. Even though it is ruled by the King family the other families have the core members of their family live on Earth. Yet the appearance of a royal at a public school was very unusual.

They don't like interacting with the common folk, so this visit is very suspicious.

Samuel looked at his dad in the audience. Jack noticed Samuel's look and placed a finger on his slips, the gesture told Samuel to keep his calm and stay quiet. Samuel composed himself as his gaze returned to the captain. The man then proceeded to summon the realm tunnel it's and made sure everything was in place and working as it should. " I can't wait to see what surprises your school has in store for me. I've heard interesting stories about the students from this humble institute. Now please come and enter the realm tunnel when I call your name" Captain James said out loud. His words seemed like words of praise to most. But to Samuel and his friends, it was a threat.

Soon people began going into the portal and as expected the Karna that everyone got was above the normal range. As each student kept getting a 4 to 5 star Karna and even some 6 stars appeared. The look on the captain's face turned serious. The soldiers on the side were recording everything even Captain James used his wristwatch once in a while. Sending messages to his superiors and he kept giving out new orders to his subordinates.

As time went by it soon reached time for the boys to be called. " Blessed Lunga come forward." The Captain said. Blessed was the first to go up to the portal, his muscular figure walked towards the portal. He was the second tallest in the group but he was undoubtedly the most handsome amongst the boys. Before he entered it he turned back to look at the boys. They all smiled at him with their thumbs up. Feeling himself gain some confidence he entered the portal. A glow of golden light appeared and soon Blessed came back. He took a deep breath and soon summoned his Karna.

A weird cylindrical object appeared floating on the palm of his right hand 6 stars danced around his body. A dazzling glow of energy flowed across his brown skin. All his female admirers couldn't help but be mesmerized by the sight. Seeing that he got a good Karna he turned towards Captain James. He calmly told Samuel that he could go. But Blessed felt a shiver run down his spine as his gaze met that of the captains. It was a clear look of anger as if Blessed had offended him somehow.
