CHAPTER 13 The Big Day

  Evelyn's POV

  It was finally the day.

The day I'd dreamed of since I was a little girl — a fairytale moment every girl fantasized about.

Sophia and I used to sit for hours, imagining our perfect weddings, the dresses we'd wear, the men we'd marry.

Of course, that would be our mate and the love of our lives.

We swore we'd be the happiest brides anyone had ever seen.

But now, standing in front of the mirror, I barely recognized myself.

The woman staring back at me wasn't radiant or glowing. She looked broken — like a widow forced into mourning, not a bride preparing to say her vows.

My white dress was stuck on my body, it was suffocating, itchy against my skin. It was wrong. All of it. Every detail.

This wasn't the day I'd dreamed of.

This wasn't the life I wanted.

"What are we going to do, Ava?" I whispered with my trembling voice as I gazed at my reflection.
