CHAPTER 12 The Engagement Holds

  Evelyn's POV

I stood right in front of my father with my mouth wide open. Nothing I said touched him at all and I couldn't believe he still wanted me to go on with the wedding.

It was like he hadn't heard a word I said. His face was stone, it didn't move at all. There were no emotions, nothing.

  "Father! This isn't love!"

"He loves you, Evelyn," he said bluntly. "And that's all that matters. You've just refused to open your eyes to what you have in front of you."

  "Open my eyes?" I repeated..

"Yes!" He raised his voice. "Open your eyes!"

I took a step closer to him with my broken heart. "You're the one who's blind, Father! Blind to all of Victor's pretenses!"

"I just told you what he did," I continued. "He tried to force himself on me! He—he isn't who you think he is! But all you care about is your selfish interests, isn't it?"

"Selfish?" he snapped. "You dare call me selfish, Evelyn?"
