Evelyn's POV
I couldn't move. My body felt frozen, I was shocked and still in confusion after everything Caleb had just told me.
It was as if I were trapped in a dream, one of those vivid nightmares where you know something isn't right, but you can't wake yourself up.
I wanted someone—anyone—to shake me, pinch me, drag me out of everything he had told me that was clouding my mind.
What Caleb said didn't sound real. It couldn't be. But it was.
Every word, every painful detail, was the truth, and no amount of wishing or denial could change it.
Sophia's hand came down gently on my shoulder, her touch grounding me. That small gesture was all it took to make me realize this wasn't a dream.
It was real. All of it.
I hadn't even noticed I was crying until Sophia pressed a tissue into my hand. I blinked with my eyes blurry, and looked at her.
Then my gaze dropped to the table in front of me, where I saw pool of tears I didn't even remember shedding.
