The house was drenched in silence, a stark contrast to the chaos swirling inside me. The ticking of the clock was the only sound, but it felt amplified, each tick dragging me further into the labyrinth of my thoughts. Sleep was an elusive thing tonight, slipping further away the harder I tried to grasp it.
Of course, I wasn't surprised. It had happened the other time as well. He had that effect on me.
