  My mother is coming home. I should be elated, but it isn't that type of homecoming. The doctors sat us down a week ago and delivered the bad news. She is not getting worse, but she is also not getting any better. There has been no change in the size of the tumor in her brain. Nothing else can be done to save her.  

  Deep down, I knew that this was going to be the outcome. My father and my mother were living in a fairy tale land where everyone gets better and lives happily ever after. But that isn't the way the real world works. The real world is dark and sad, and there are no happy endings. You live, you work, and you die.
