CHAPTER 75 I Owe Him

Everything feels like it is moving in slow motion. I see the bullet exiting the barrel of the gun, but I don't know how to react. The bullet is going to hit David in the back of the head, and there is nothing I can do about it without putting myself in danger.

Suddenly, hot liquid sprays all over my face, and it takes me a moment to realize that it is blood. The sound of the bullet passing through David's head is sickening. A piece of his skull breaks off as the bullet passes through him and lands on the ground at my feet.

Not realizing what I am doing, I reach for the skull fragment. I have to put him back together. I have to save him. He is my birth father, and I know nothing about him. I need to make this right.

Before I can reach the piece of the skull on the floor, Luke is at my side, pulling me away from the bodies of our parents. The chains are still wrapped around Ester's neck, and her body is shaking. I cannot tell if she is still alive or not.
