CHAPTER 83 Custody

  LUKE

Kat rushes into our bedroom and shuts the door behind her. She presses her back against the door and slams the back of her head on the door several times. I try to hide the smirk on my lips, but I can't.

"It's not funny," Kat growls in my direction.

"Is she asleep?" I ask playfully.

Kat sighs loudly. "After four bedtime stories. Six hugs. Three glasses of water and four trips to the bathroom. She is finally asleep."

I chuckle even though I know I shouldn't. "You are doing a really nice thing for Hector and Abigale," I remind her.

"I know," she replies. "I just didn't realize taking care of a seven-year-old was going to be so much work."

Kat drags herself across the bedroom and flops down on the bed face first. I rub my hands across her shoulders, and she groans. "What can I do for you?"

"Nothing," she says with tears in her eyes. "Abigale is my responsibility."

"No," I reply. "She is our responsibility. I should be helping you more."
