Abigale is hiding behind the skirt of my dress. She is pulling the folds over her head, hiding from Hector. Plastering a smile on my face, I try to pry her little fists from the fabric.
Hector hasn't seen Abigale in a month, but according to Luke, he has put in the work. He is taking care of himself, getting to work on time, and attending parenting classes. By all accounts, he has earned the right to get his daughter back. But I am not so sure. He has had the opportunity for visitation but claimed he didn't want to confuse Abigale by seeing her.
He is holding a pink bunny in his hands and twisting one of the ears uncomfortably. He doesn't know what to do in this situation, and honestly, neither do I.
Instead of trying to pull Abigale off my skirt, I plop down on the grass. Abigale has nowhere to hide. She glances in her father's direction before wrapping her arms around my neck. She slides onto my lap and hides her face in my neck.
