Alec's POV
"Kane?!".
The same Kane he had grown up with, the one who had been like a brother to me. The one who had been taken from us all those years ago. The one we had all seen die in my very arms.
Kane stood before me, his face older, harder, but unmistakably the same. His dark eyes glinted with an intensity I had never seen before, a strange fire burning behind them.
"Alec," Kane's voice was low, gravelly, as if the years had not been kind to him. "I've been waiting for you."
I couldn't move. The world felt as though it had shifted on its axis. I had to be seeing things—this couldn't be real. Kane's death had been final. Everyone had mourned him. The pack had moved on. My eyes followed Selena as she shifted closer to her brother, her eyes trained behind me at the thicket of the forest. She was looking for Carter.
"What the hell is going on, Kane?" my voice broke through the shock. "We thought you were dead! We burned your body."
