I froze.
The two officers were equally stunned.
Lucas leaned back in his chair, calm as ever.
"I apologize for the trouble, but after some thought, I've decided not to pursue this matter. The truth has been clarified, and my wife and I haven't suffered any actual loss. Let's give the other party a chance to turn over a new leaf."
I was utterly baffled.
His sudden change of heart clearly had something to do with the phone call he had just received.
Since the complainant had decided not to press charges, the officers were more than happy to leave after a few polite exchanges.
"Why drop the investigation?" I couldn't help but ask.
Before he could answer, there was a knock at the door.
His assistant entered, glancing briefly at me before addressing Lucas respectfully. "Mr. Reid, as of today's market close, Global Horizon International's stock has dropped by two points."
Stock prices dropped? Could it be related to the public statement he made earlier?
