I stared at him in disbelief. "So, what you're saying is that your agreement with him was just a stall tactic?"
Lucas suddenly flashed a smile. "Kate, it's not that complicated. Don't worry, I've got this."
How could I not worry? That Salvatore guy didn't look like someone you could easily handle.
I asked, "What exactly did you agree to in that contract? What happens if you can't get his brother out?"
Lucas seemed to feel that the car was getting stuffy and rolled down the window halfway, letting the wind blow in.
"If I can't do it, I'll just give him a million," he replied.
My eyes widened. "Why? He asked for your help, and it was already difficult. Is it your fault if you can't help him?"
Seeing my strong reaction, Lucas chuckled.
"Kate, to me, if a problem can be solved with money, then it's not a problem."
