Salvatore's hands pressed firmly on both of my shoulders, easily trapping me in place.
He stared at me emotionlessly, his mood unreadable. But I could guess that the result of his brother Vin's case being upheld wasn't going to make him happy.
"Sal, please don't..." Tessa, holding Lily in her arms, stood to the side with tears still fresh on her face. She was too scared to even finish her sentence.
Salvatore turned his head toward her and said, "You go wait outside. I'll take you home in a bit."
Tessa hesitated, glancing between him and me, clearly not wanting to leave, but after a long pause, she turned and walked away, casting several worried glances back at us.
Once Tessa's figure disappeared from view, I spoke.
"Legal matters are beyond our control."
Though I hadn't interacted much with Salvatore, I didn't think he was the type to be unreasonable, so I tried to calm myself down and reason with him.
