As I held Grandma Scott's body, I felt like a child again, seeking comfort from the only person who had ever truly loved and cared for me. The memories of our life together rushed over me in a wave: her warm smile, the way she'd tuck me in at night, the stories she'd tell me about the past.
Why didn't I ever stop to understand her?
The only parent I ever had was her. I wish I could bring her back. I wish I could make things right. She didn't have to go through so much because of what life gave him.
The cops came, the sirens coming from the ambulance, I just didn't know what was going on until I saw Grandma being wheeled away and I was in Dahila's arms.
She held me, "I love you." She said while I wrapped my arms around her. She's all I have now. She and my baby are all I have now.
"I love you with all my heart Dahila." I felt our baby which was in her stomach, "I will never leave you for anyone." I kissed her, tears choking me at the back of my throat.
