Macy POV
I know parking at the bar will be like a massive beacon light pointing to my location. Instead, I park the Corvette in the woods behind the bar. It is a tight squeeze, but I manage to make it fit. The only problem is, I can't open my door. Crawling across the center console, I slide out of the passenger door. I grab my 'go bag' out of the back seat and scream when I turn around.
Jason is standing at the back of my car with a scowl etched into his face. "What have I said about parking back here?"
"The fucking royal twins are here," I growl. "I needed to hide the car."
"And you?" He raises an eyebrow.
"I will hang out in the apartment until they get bored and go home," I shrug. "Just like always."
Jason's eyes are boring into my skin, but I refuse to meet his gaze. I don't want to give anything away. I don't think he knows who my mates are meant to be. Why would he? He is only a bar owner on the outskirts of the pack.
"Just like always," he says with a humorous grin. "Your boyfriend is already upstairs."
"He isn't my boyfriend," I growl through my teeth.
"Whatever," Jason turns away. "Don't get pregnant under my watch. Your mother would fucking kill me."
I step through the back door of the bar and breathe in the disgusting scent of liquor, sweat, and blood. I am home. I take the stairs two at a time and burst through my apartment door. Jacob is sitting on the couch with his hands between his legs. He looks like a child that has just been scolded.
"Fuck," I growl.
I spin around and see my mother standing in the kitchen. She is mixing herself a drink and giving me a death stare.
"Did you follow me?" I hiss at her.
"Don't flatter yourself," she rolls her eyes. "I was coming here to drink myself into a stupor when I saw you pulling my fucking Corvette into the goddamn woods."
"I didn't hit any trees," I say, grabbing the bottle out of her hand.
"I am not finished," she takes it back and presses it to her lips. "Then I saw this idiot trying to sneak in the back. It didn't take long for me to put two and two together. This is a nice place. It is nice to see you can keep something cleaner than your room."
"Just leave," I hiss at her. "I am eighteen. I can leave the pack house whenever I want."
"You are mated to the royal twins," she screams. "You can't keep running around with Jacob. It will look poorly on you."
"You are mated to the royal twins?" Jacob whispers from across the room.
"Shut up," Mom and I shout at him at the same time.
He sinks back onto the couch and pretends not to exist.
"No one knows they are my mates," I groan. "They haven't addressed the bond between us. I am sure they will reject me by the end of the week."
"You don't listen," Mom slams her drink down on my counter. "You can't reject them. They are royals."
"That is not a law," I cross my arms over my chest. "As soon as they acknowledge the bond between us, I will reject them."
Mom takes another swig of the drink in her hand. "You can't. You are special."
"Nyx doesn't make me special," I hiss. "She makes me weird."
'I heard that,' she replies from the other side of the room.
"You were supposed to," I scream at my wolf. "If you would stay in my mind where you belong, I wouldn't be Crazy Macy."
'You are lucky I enter your mind at all,' Nyx growls. 'I haven't shared a mind in several hundred years.'
"Lucky me," I roll my eyes.
'You are only saying these things because you are hurt,' Nyx curls up into a ball. 'You will apologize later when you are alone and have no one else to talk to because that coward will not stay by your side once the royal twins make their claim.'
I turn my head slightly and look at Jacob. She is right. She always is. Once the twins stake their claim, he will fade into the background just like everyone else.
"You don't know that," I whisper, lying to myself.
"If you would just communicate with Nyx inside your mind," Mom pleads with me.
"I have already told you," I shout. "That isn't how it works. I can't speak with someone who isn't in my mind. When she is outside, it is the only way I can communicate with her."
"Maybe you just ignore her then," Mom says.
Nyx scoffs loudly and throws her nose into the air. I roll my eyes at the offense she has taken, but I can't stop the smirk on my lips.
"I am not going back," I say to Mom. "You can't make me. I am eighteen."
"You will go back," Mom snaps at me. "Or I'll tell Jason not to let you stay here anymore."
"Why would Jason listen to you?" I hiss at her. "He can do what he wants."
"Can he?" Mom cocks an eyebrow at me. "I own this bar."
I glance in Nyx's direction. 'She is telling the truth.'
"I think I am going to go," Jacob says from behind me.
"Sit down," I growl at him, but my mother opens the door and waves him out.
He gets up from the couch and shrugs. "She is my Luna."
He slides out of the door, and I can hear him scramble down the stairs as if he is running from something. Then it hits me. Cinnamon and Vanilla.
"Fuck me," I groan as the royal twins stalk into my apartment.
"Maybe later," Edward smiles. "I'm not in the mood with your mother in the room."
"Well," Mom says, taking my bottle of whisky with her. "That is my cue to leave."
"I am coming with you," I shout as I rush toward the door, but the twins block my exit.
"Move," I growl at them.
"I believe there was talk about fucking," Edward laughs.
"That was the male in your room," Winston states the obvious.
"Just go," I whine. "I actually like this place, and I don't want your dirty fingerprints all over it."
"We need to talk," Edward says, dragging me to the couch.
They are going to reject me. It is what I want, but why do I suddenly feel so sad? I decided a long time ago that I didn't want them to be part of my life. So, why do I get the feeling that this is going to hurt like hell?
"We are royals," Edward begins. "As much as we would like to dissolve this little situation between us, we can't."
Relief rushes over me, but I try not to let it show. "Why not? I am clearly not the mate you were expecting. Just say a few simple words, and it will all be over with."
"That's not how it works for us," Edward grits his teeth together.
I glance at Nyx. She is circling Winston, sniffing the air around me. 'They aren't werewolves.'
"What are you?" I ask them.
"That is none of your business," Edward growls. "Just stay away from us."
"Fine," I shrug. "Leave."
Edward looks around my apartment, "Actually, I think this is our new place. You can leave."
