Macy POV
I glare into the eyes of the twin who dared to touch me. In an act of defiance, I pull my lip back between my teeth and resist growling at him. He smirks and his brother joins him at his side. Despite the fact they are twins, they don't look exactly alike. The larger of the two has a short, militant hairstyle. Meanwhile, the other has a messy bedhead look. The larger one smells like cinnamon, and the other smells like vanilla. Their eyes are an identical shade of hazel, though. Both are built like Greek Gods, but I am not attracted to that sort of thing. I prefer my men to be thin and nerdy.
'Keep telling yourself that,' Nyx laughs loudly, causing the scowl on my face to deepen.
"Edward," the Luna the Queen calls out to the smaller one. "Grab the bags from the back of the car."
"He's the muscle," Edward says, pointing to his brother, Winston. At least now I know which one is which.
Winston rolls his eyes and drags the bags out of the back of the car. His muscles strain against his t-shirt, and I avert my eyes to keep from staring. I decide I need to get out of here as soon as possible.
"Welp," I say, turning to Mom. "Now that this is over, I am going to Jacob's for the rest of the day."
I bounce down the steps of the pack house, and Winston drops his bags and grabs me around the waist. I kick and fight against his hold, but he doesn't let me go. Instead, he sets me down in front of our parents. I spin around to leave again, but my father, Kaden, clears his throat loudly.
"You will show our guests to their rooms," he says.
My mouth falls open. "They have been here before. They know their way around."
"Things are different now," Mom reminds me of our conversation this morning. "Show Edward and Winston to their rooms."
My teeth grind together, and I want to fight, but everyone's eyes are on me. "Where are they staying?"
"In the rooms next to yours," my dad, Kai, responds.
"You can't be fucking serious," I snap at him.
"Oh, I think he is, Crazy Macy," Edward smiles.
I don't give him the satisfaction of turning around. Instead, I walk through the pack house door. Nyx leaps from my mind and walks by my side, glancing down the stairs. 'They are right behind you,' she tells me as she wags her tail happily.
"I know they are behind me," I groan. "I can smell them from here."
"Wow," Edward laughs behind me. "I see not much has changed in eight years."
I reach the first door beside mine. "Has it been eight years already?" Pushing the door open, I gesture for them to go inside. "This is the first room."
Winston walks inside and sets down his bags. He looks around and gives Edward a silent nod. I cock my head to the side and watch the exchange between the two of them. Edward seems to understand Winston, even though he doesn't speak.
Not wanting to give it too much thought, I walk out of the room and pass my bedroom. Edward pauses outside of my door. He tests the doorknob and frowns when he finds it locked. "What are you hiding in there?"
"That is my space," I speak to him like he is a child. "This is your space. I won't evade your space, and you won't evade mine."
I push the next door open and walk away. I have every intention of leaving the pack house and making my way to Jacob's house when I spot Winston kneeling on the floor beside my door. Much to my horror, my bedroom door swings open, and Winston invites himself into my room.
I could walk away and let them rifle through my things. It isn't like I have anything of importance in there anyway. Everything that I hold dear is hidden at the bar on the edge of town. The bar's owner is a close friend of Mom's and lets me hide there when things become too much. The old apartment above the bar is mine now. I plan on moving in permanently after I graduate from school.
But when I see Edward walk into my room as well, I can't stop myself from following them inside. I make sure to stand in the doorway so they cannot close me inside with them. Winston is looking through my artbooks thoughtfully, and Edward is in my closet. My jaw is so tight that my teeth are beginning to ache.
Edward comes out of the closet with a light blue sundress in his hands and a pair of white ballet flats. "Change."
I scoff loudly at the forced command. "And just who the fuck do you think you are?"
"I think you know who I am," he smirks as he lays the dress on my bed. "I will not have you walking around looking like the Goddess of death."
"Luckily for you, I don't plan on telling anyone our little secret," I hiss through my teeth. "Now, if you will, please leave my room."
"Why does it smell like another male in here?" Edward demands to know.
"None of your fucking business," I snap at him.
"I am making it my business," he snarls in return.
Crossing my arms over my chest, I refuse to answer him. I am sure Jacob will have enough problems with the royal twins when they realize that he is my only friend. I don't need to paint a target on his back today.
"Who is this?" Winston asks, pointing to one of the drawings in my book.
"So, you do speak?" I retort, but Winston doesn't take the bait. He points to the picture of Nyx.
"It is just a wolf," I say, grabbing the book out of his hands, but when I do, the page tears, ripping the picture of Nyx in two.
A growl comes from the other side of the room, and my head turns to see Nyx just as angry about the destruction of her portrait as I am. She is pawing at the ground, and she is foaming at the mouth. If I am not careful, she will leap back into my mind and force the shift. Even though I don't consider this room my home, I still like some of the stuff in it.
"It's okay," I tell her. "I can always do another one."
"Who are you talking to?" Edward laughs. When I don't answer him, he looks at Winston and says, "I told you she would still be crazy."
I haven't cried since my tenth birthday party. I promised myself that day that I would never let anyone see me cry ever again. But now I can feel the familiar sting of hot tears burning my eyes. Before one can stray down my cheek, I turn and leave my room.
"Where are you going?" Edward demands to know.
"Shut the door when you leave," I shout as I head down the stairs.
Mom and Raven are waiting at the bottom, and I storm past them without a second glance. I am walking across the driveway to Mom's old Corvette when I hear her call after me.
"Macy, you can't run from this," she shouts after me.
"Want to bet?" I yell back.
Once I am in the car, I rev the engine and fire off a text to Jacob telling him where to meet me, and then I hammer the gas and race down the long driveway toward my second home.
