CHAPTER 38

  Dario's POV

As I watched Aubrey and Lucas walk away, I couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy. Why is he so close with Aubrey, and why did he get to spend time with her while I was stuck with Sophia?

I turned my attention back to Sophia, who was chatting with my mother and grandmother. She seemed to be enjoying herself, laughing and smiling with the other guests. But I couldn't shake off the feeling that she was just pretending to be happy, that she was hiding something behind her fake smile.

I sighed, feeling trapped in this situation. I didn't want to be here, at this party, with these people. I wanted to be with Aubrey, to talk to her and laugh with her like we used to.

But that was impossible now. Aubrey had moved on, and I was stuck with Sophia.

I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down. I needed to focus on the present, on the fact that my family's business was in trouble and that I needed to find a way to save it.
