CHAPTER 41

  Aubrey's POV

I walked away from the drama with Lucas, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. "Thanks for rescuing me, Lucas," I said, smiling up at him.

Lucas grinned, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Anytime, Aubrey. You know I've got your back."

We walked out into the cool night air, the sound of music and laughter fading into the distance. The stars were shining brightly above us, and I felt a sense of peace settle over me.

"I'm so glad I'm out of there," I said, sighing. "Sophia was getting on my last nerve."

Lucas chuckled. "Yeah, she's a piece of work, all right. But you handled her like a pro, Aubrey. I'm proud of you."

I smiled, feeling a surge of gratitude towards Lucas. "Thanks, Lucas. That means a lot coming from you."

We walked in silence for a moment, the only sound being the crunch of gravel beneath our feet. Then Lucas spoke up.

"Aubrey, can I ask you something?"

"Of course, Lucas. What is it?"
