CHAPTER 42

  Dario's POV

I felt a chill run down my spine as William Carver gazed at me. It felt like he was staring right into my very soul.

What have I gotten myself into? I wondered, my leg trembling.

Little wonder William Carver is feared and highly respected. He has a dangerous aura about him that suppresses whoever comes close.

As I was thinking on how to escape him, I saw Sophia storming towards me, her eyes blazing with rage.

The party was almost over, and some guests were already leaving. And there was no sight of Aubrey.

I let out a sigh as Sophia approached. At least she rescued me from doom.

"What's going on, Sophia?" I asked, trying to sound calm.

"You know exactly what's going on, Dario," she spat, her voice venomous. "You're still pining after Aubrey, aren't you? You're still in love with her."

I sighed, feeling a sense of frustration. "Sophia, we've been over this. I care about you, but I also have feelings for Aubrey. I'm not going to lie about it."
