Before she could argue against such a dangerous plan, he used his ability of concealment to hide himself from sight and stepped forward on his own.
After walking down the tunnel a few feet, Oliver suddenly came upon another cavern that was lit up by torches mounted along its walls. Inside, there were at least two dozen goblins crowded in a circle while screaming, shouting, and cheering as though they were having some kind of event.
Not sure of what exactly was happening, Oliver decided to ignore it for now and focused on finding his way out instead.
He kept his distance from the goblins and crept along the outer edge of the cavern. As he approached the other side, he noticed a path that led to an opening up ahead.
Just as he was about to head toward it, he heard several heavy footsteps coming from there. The noise startled him, and he stopped moving.
It was soon replaced by several loud thumps, almost like someone running through a tunnel. Soon afterward, three large goblins appeared from the opening.
'Fuck... It was good that I chose to scout ahead first. There's no way I could handle these three big ones alone.' He thought in his mind.
Each goblin stood at six feet tall. Their large builds made them look much more threatening than the smaller goblins, and they wielded crude clubs in their hands.
Seeing these creatures made Oliver tense up even more, but he forced himself to ignore the fear inside him and continued sneaking around the cavern.
He soon found another tunnel on the far end of the cavern. However, there were two goblins guarding it.
Oliver ignored them and walked into the tunnel anyway.
After moving forward for a couple more minutes, he realized he ended up in some kind of storage room with several piles of stuff stacked up everywhere.
He saw the things that goblins commonly used—bones, furs, stone tools, and crude weapons made out of sharpened rocks or sticks tied together. However, there were also various other objects scattered about as well; shiny trinkets like rings and necklaces made of silver or gold lay in plain sight for anyone to grab.
Then he also noticed what appeared to be large cages full of captured human men, women, and children. All of them appeared to be dead, though.
Upon seeing such a horrific sight, Oliver couldn't help himself and threw up right then and there.
Even though he knew about the cruelty of some humans, Oliver never thought he would see a scene like this.
He wanted to kill every single one of these goblins. But he forced himself to remain calm; he needed to be smart about it if he wanted to make it through.
After calming down a bit, Oliver picked up clothes lying on the ground and put them on himself. They seemed to be torn but fit well enough, so it was good enough for now.
He also got something like a one-piece leather outfit for his mother. Since she didn't have any clothing, he wanted her to be able to have something to cover her half-nakedness with.
"Since we are in a situation where we have to live off what we find..." Oliver said to himself and gathered all the shiny objects into one large cloth and tied it in a knot, planning to sell them off if he can.
While doing that, he also found a few more weapons but didn't know how to use those. "Hmm, there are also swords, bows, and arrows around, but it won't work if I don't know how to use them..." He decided to ignore those and picked up another dagger that looked sturdier and sharper than the one he found earlier.
Once Oliver finished gathering what he could, he made his way back to find his way out of this place.
Since the area wasn't too big, it didn't take him much time to find another tunnel leading somewhere different.
"For fuck's sake... I don't think I can continue hiding myself any longer... I feel like I'll run out of energy anytime..." Oliver whispered in worry.
He didn't realize how exhausting using this skill was until now. Just after a few minutes of walking, he could feel that his body became heavy and sluggish.
Oliver understood that his new power consumed a large amount of energy. Something he didn't have at the moment.
For now, all he could do was grit his teeth and continue searching until he could find a way back out.
As he walked through the tunnel, he felt a cold breeze coming at him from the front.
He ran towards it without stopping once.
A few more minutes later, he finally reached an open space. The sudden rush of wind from the outside world greeted his face, and he let out a sigh of relief.
"Great, an exit! We might just make it after all!" Oliver thought to himself while smiling. "Now... how do I get Mom up here? Can I use my abilities to help her get out as well? I don't think it works on other people though..."
Oliver thought hard about how to get his mother out of the underground cave system, but he couldn't come up with any good ideas. He knew that he couldn't leave her down there alone, but he also wasn't sure if it was possible for him to bring her up as well.
Just then, an idea popped up in his mind.
Oliver quickly ran back into the tunnel and hurried towards where he left Mia earlier. When he returned, he found her leaning against the wall while trying to hide herself in a corner.
He made his way over to her, and as soon as she noticed him approaching, Mia instantly stood up and hugged him tightly.
"You're back! What took you so long!?" She cried while hugging Oliver close to her chest.
