Chapter 34: The Truth in the Sky
Alex had just taken Wanda to his old home, now reduced to ruins, and after that, the next destination was clear. Wanda had been insistent, and Alex had found Elizabeth's address. He knew they had to visit her; Wanda needed to see the woman who looked exactly like her.
With one last glance at the remains of his previous life, Alex focused on the next step. Taking Wanda in his arms, he flew through the sky, cutting through the air at incredible speed. Wanda didn't speak, her mind clearly occupied with what was to come. Alex concentrated on the location he had memorized—the place where Elizabeth lived.
They soon reached the towering building, and there on the balcony, Elizabeth stood, completely unaware of the approaching figures. She stared at the sky, probably just enjoying the calm moment. But that peace was shattered when she saw two figures descending toward her.
Her eyes widened as she watched, frozen in place, unable to comprehend what she was seeing. A man and a woman were flying through the air, moving like something out of a fantasy. As they got closer, her heart pounded in her chest, and panic began to set in. She couldn't understand how it was possible. Who were these people? Why were they flying?
Before she could react, Alex landed, gently placing Wanda down beside her. Elizabeth, still in shock, stared at the woman standing before her. Wanda looked exactly like her. The resemblance was uncanny, almost as if looking into a mirror.
Wanda took a step forward, her expression mischievous. "I'm you," she said, the words playful yet unsettling.
Elizabeth's confusion deepened. "What do you mean? Who are you?"
Wanda's smile grew wider, her eyes gleaming with a strange intensity. "I'm you. From another universe."
Elizabeth blinked rapidly, trying to process the words, but it made no sense. "Another universe? What are you talking about?" She was on the edge of disbelief.
Wanda tilted her head. "I want to kill you and take your place."
Elizabeth took a step back, her body stiffening in fear. Her pulse quickened, and her mind struggled to process what was happening.
Before Elizabeth could react any further, Alex spoke up. "Okay, dear, don't frighten her," he said, his tone firm yet calm.
Elizabeth's gaze snapped to him, still disoriented. Alex stepped closer to her. "She's you. But from another reality. She just wanted to meet you."
Elizabeth's confusion only grew. "Another reality? How is that even possible?"
Alex gave a slight nod. "It's complicated. But she's you. Just not from this world."
Elizabeth took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. "And you? Who are you?"
Alex didn't hesitate. "I'm Wanda's husband."
Elizabeth's expression went blank for a moment, and then her eyes widened in shock. "What?" she whispered, trying to wrap her mind around it. "Your husband? How is that even possible?"
Alex met her gaze, steady and unmoving. "I'm her husband. From a different reality, just like Wanda."
Elizabeth's heart was racing, but there was no time to react. The words hung in the air, and the truth of the situation hit her hard, though she couldn't make sense of it all just yet. She stared at both of them—Wanda, her exact replica, and Alex, a man she didn't know. The world had just shifted beneath her feet, and she wasn't sure which way was up anymore.
