Chapter 35: The Shocking Reunion
As soon as Alex and Wanda entered Elizabeth's home, the woman trembled. Her mind raced, and the sight of the two people who stood in front of her, especially Wanda, was almost too much to process. She tried to steady her breathing as she motioned for them to come inside. "Welcome," she said, her voice unsteady.
Alex and Wanda entered, and Elizabeth led them to the living room, her movements slow and hesitant. She tried to steady her hands as she glanced nervously between the two strangers who looked so familiar yet were utterly foreign.
Wanda, seemingly unaffected by the tension, sat down on the couch, her gaze drifting around the room. Elizabeth stood for a moment before she asked, "What... What is your name?"
Wanda, without missing a beat, looked up at her. "Wanda Maximoff."
Elizabeth froze, her heart nearly stopping. "Like... Marvel's Wanda?" she asked, the words almost choking in her throat. Her mind was struggling to keep up. She knew Wanda Maximoff from the comics and the movies, but here was this woman—her exact replica—sitting casually in front of her.
Wanda simply nodded, continuing to eat, unfazed by Elizabeth's shock.
"Do you have magic?" Elizabeth asked hesitantly, her voice trembling.
Wanda's eyes flickered, and in an instant, with a small flick of her hand, Elizabeth was lifted off the ground. She gasped in shock, her body completely weightless. The world spun around her as she floated, unable to understand how this was even possible.
Wanda lowered her hand, and Elizabeth was gently placed back on the floor. She stumbled slightly, her hands shaking. "That's... magic?" she managed to breathe out, still in disbelief.
Wanda just smiled faintly, "Yes."
Elizabeth took a step back, her mind racing with a million questions. "And... what about him? Does he use magic too?"
Alex, who had been standing silently by the door, finally spoke. "I'm Alex," he said simply.
Elizabeth frowned, not quite understanding. "Alex? What's your... connection to all of this?"
Alex seemed to sense her confusion and responded calmly, "I don't have magic, at least not like Wanda. But I can do... other things."
Before Elizabeth could respond, Alex raised a hand, and with a single movement, Elizabeth was once again lifted from the ground. This time, she didn't float as effortlessly as with Wanda's magic. There was something about the energy in Alex's aura that made the sensation feel different—stronger, more controlled.
When she was set down, Elizabeth was completely floored. "You... you can fly too?" she asked, her voice a mere whisper. She couldn't hide her shock any longer. The pieces were beginning to fall into place, and she realized that Alex, too, was far more than what he appeared. He wasn't just a normal man; there was something deeply magical about him as well.
"Yes," Alex replied, his voice calm and steady, as though flying was the most natural thing in the world.
Elizabeth took a moment to gather her thoughts, her hands shaking slightly as she reached for her phone. She needed answers. She needed to call her family. Her mind whirled with a thousand questions about these people, these otherworldly beings who had just entered her life so suddenly.
She quickly dialed the number for her parents, her hands still trembling. When they answered, she tried to sound as composed as possible. "I need you to come here. Now. It's important."
A short time later, her parents arrived. Elizabeth opened the door to find her mother and father standing there, clearly confused. But as they entered and caught sight of Wanda, her mother froze.
For a long moment, she just stood there, her eyes wide with shock. And then, as though the floodgates had been opened, she broke down, tears pouring from her eyes.
"Mom...?" Elizabeth's voice cracked as she stepped forward, but her words faltered. She watched Wanda, who had been standing silently at the door, with tears of her own in her eyes. Wanda's face was twisted with grief as she fell to her knees.
Elizabeth turned to Alex, the weight of the situation slowly sinking in. "What's going on?" she asked, her voice shaking. "Why is she crying? Why is she so upset?"
Alex looked at Elizabeth, his expression serious. "Her family... they're all gone," he explained quietly. "Wanda's mother and everyone else—her world doesn't exist anymore."
Elizabeth felt her stomach churn. The realization hit her hard, and her heart went out to Wanda. She understood now why the other Wanda, the one who looked so much like her, was in such pain.
But just as she was beginning to understand the depth of the situation, there was another shock in store. Wanda's mother, her tear-streaked face filled with confusion and disbelief, slowly turned to face Elizabeth. Her eyes locked onto Wanda, the other Wanda, and her jaw dropped.
For a moment, there was only silence. Wanda and her mother stared at each other—two women who, despite their different worlds, shared the same face, the same likeness. Wanda's mother seemed unable to speak, her shock too great to process.
Elizabeth, unable to handle the intensity of the moment, took a step back. "What is happening?" she muttered under her breath, her mind reeling. The two Wandas stared at each other, neither knowing what to say or do.
The room was thick with tension. Elizabeth realized that there were no easy answers to this strange encounter. The truth was far more complicated than she could have ever imagined.
