The Mystery Man

"And who is that?" She asked out aloud, staring in a direction far away from her. Her eyes were settled on a certain man who was dressed in a back shirt, whose first three buttons were opened to show off the brightness of his skin, and sleeves rolled upwards.

His hair was darkened, and his eyes were calm like the oceans. His physique was well buffed and intimidating, the very reason for her attention to be caught, evident in the way she licked her upper lips in a seductive manner.

"Who?" Martha asked without a clue. Her eyes also searched in the direction where Elissa's eyes were directed to, and she searched for who she believed was the most interesting person to steal her friend's consciousness.

"Him…" She pointed stylishly, resisting letting others see who it was. She moved her shoulders back and forth, repositioning herself on the cushion which she sat on as though she sought the attention of the said man.

But he never looked in her direction, even though she hoped he did. He was seated on another cushion, gently sipping from the glass of wine which he held, and having his eyes closed as though he basked in the melody of the song being played.

"He is hot…" Martha opened up. Her thoughts had processed the same which happened to be Elissa's kind of thoughts, but in a few seconds had regretted the words which she uttered.

"Exactly. And I'm going to talk to him" Elissa said again with a smile on her face. She thought of what words she would use to draw his attention, or what would immediately start off a conversation between them both, and would not make it seem as though she was of boring interest.

"What?" Martha asked with a sudden switch in the direction of whom she looked, switching from staring at the said man over to her friend who sat at her side.

It was as though the words Elissa had spoken had made her think in the same manner she always thought, and had pointed out the flaws that could emerge from what she intended to do.

"Elissa, you don't know that man!" She said to him.

"What then do you think I want to do? Huh? I'm about to go know who he is" she said to Martha with a form of excitement coated in her words.

She stared again at the man who had immediately stepped out of the cushion towards the bartender's side, and at the spot, she had conceived the wildest thoughts of what would transpire between the both of them.

But when it seemed as though the eager feeling and desire within her was slowly quenching, she stood from where she was seated, and walked seductively to where he was seated.

She sat on the elevated stool which was by his side, and placed her hands on the counter.

"A shot please!" She said to the young bartender who immediately turned around to get just what she had ordered for.

"Hi" she waved at the man beside her with a smile and a soft toned voice, one charming enough to get his attention.

"Hello there" he responded. His deepened tone had immediately sent down a shiver in her body that caused her to yearn for more of his voice, for more of the conversation.

"You must be the birthday girl" he said to her.

"You know about that?" She asked with widened eyes. Her mouth was agape with a hybrid of surprise and elation which she could not control.

"I like to pay attention to my environment." He said as he turned around, giving her all of his full attention.

"Happy birthday, miss…?" He said as he stretched his hands out to Elissa, hoping to get her name through his sweet gestures.

"Elissa" she answered as she placed her hand in his, and smiled broadly with the hopes that she would get to know his name. But at the same time, she had removed all traces of doubts that the conversation was going to be stiff and one-sided.

As far as she saw the smile that rested on his face, she was certain to be on the right track, and would eventually end well.

"I'm Zeph" he responded as he watched her grab the glass that was placed before her, and watched as she gulped everything down her throat.

He was unsure if she had heard the words which he uttered, and at the same time, was amazed as to how she had immediately adapted to the effect of the drink on her. It was somewhat different from the first time she had taken it, if he ever paid that much attention to details like he claimed.

"Do you care for another? I'm willing to make sure that your birthday is better than how you imagined it to be" he said to her.

"Give us two shots." He turned over to the bartender and said to him. The young man grabbed another glass and continued with his job, while Zeph had his eyes rested on Elissa.

"Why are you staring at me like that?" She asked him with blushing eyes. His looks were captivating, and at the same time, innocent. It was as though he was a hybrid of holiness and evil personified, having the sincerest intentions, and at the same time, the most evil intentions harboured.

Yet, she found it fancy that the man whom she admired could also have the feelings she harboured, perhaps also admiring her qualities just the same way she did.

"You're beautiful" he said to her, the very words that sealed the thoughts and suspicions raised in the lady's heart.

She smiled, and chuckled, and was too stunned to utter a word. Who would have thought that the very man who seemed to have been a loner in the club could have huge admirations for her.

"Thank you" she said with a slight move of her shoulders.

"Cheers." they clinked their glasses with both their eyes locked to expose the hidden feelings within them, and gulped down the alcohol before they both laughed and spoke inaudibly.
