''Lord Declan?'' Marlon had waited long enough for the Vampire King to return to his wedding, but he was still away.
''Did you see where Lord Declan went?'' Marlon started to ask around, but everyone only shook their heads as they had no idea.
Marlon looked at Ayra, who sat on a throne-like seat beside Lord Declan before he excused himself. He wanted to ask her if, per adventure, the vampire king told her where he was going to, but Marlon decided to hold back as the expression on Ayra's face was not pleasurable. She didn't want to be there.
''Lord Declan should let this girl be after my severe warning, but he just won't.'' Marlon said as he also left the wedding venue in search of Lord Declan.
Luckily, the wedding guests were all immersed in drums of alcohol and music, so no one apart from the closest people to him had noticed that Lord Declan was not available anymore.
Marlon went to the Vampire King's chambers to look for him, but he was not there. He searched around the vicinity where Lord Declan would usually be, but the Vampire King was still nowhere to be found.
Marlon was skeptical about the Vampire King's absence this time around. If he was nowhere close to the vicinity of the coven, that meant he was outside the coven. Marlon glided out of the coven and started to search for Lord Declan around the entire kingdom.
''My Lord...'' Marlon called as he looked for his king.
Lord Declan heard Marlon calling him and put up a smile as he looked at King Devon.
''Company's coming. You had better leave before it gets ugly. The girl or whoever you are looking for, is not here.'' Lord Declan said sternly to King Devon.
King Devon was about to repeat the fact that he was not going to leave, when he heard the voice of Marlon, calling on Lord Declan. He could sense anxiety in Marlon's voice, so he thought it was better to leave and save himself from trouble, since he was alone.
''Okay then, I'll leave, but I'm sure you can't imagine that I will not be back. Of course, I will be back to take the girl back home. She's my mate and I need to get married to her at once.'' King Devon revealed his plans at once.
Lord Declan chuckled.
''Married? Oh, okay then. Hopefully, you get to marry whoever your love interest is, but that person is not in my kingdom. I'll go back to what I was doing. I was busy before you came here to interrupt the peace of my kingdom.'' Lord Declan turned around to head back to his wedding, and it was only at that time that King Devon realized that Lord Declan was dressed in a ceremonial royal outfit.
''Wait a minute...'' King Devon muttered as the realization hit him.
Was the Vampire King getting married? What was the occasion in the vampire kingdom that made him dress up so heavily if not for marriage? Also, was he getting married to Ayra?
King Devon's heart started to pound against his chest heavily as he reluctantly left the vampire kingdom.
Meanwhile, Marlon had found Lord Declan coming back to the coven.
''My Lord...'' Relieved to see Lord Declan, after panicking a little, Marlon glided towards the Vampire King.
''What are you doing out here, all alone? It's dangerous...'' Marlon said, looking around to see if he would see a clue of the reason that Lord Declan was out there.
''There was an intruder. I perceived him during the wedding, and went out to confront him,'' Lord Declan replied.
''An intruder?'' Marlon asked.
''You should have asked me to deal with it. Why did you have to come out here by yourself, especially while your wedding is going on?'' Marlon was disapproving of what the Vampire King had done.
Lord Declan and Marlon started to glide side by side back to the wedding as Lord Declan revealed who the intruder was.
''It 's a good thing that you didn't come here to see the person or else you wouldn't have been able to control your anger, and you two would have fought and destroyed my wedding.'' Lord Declan was smiling sheepishly while he spoke.
''What's with the smile, my lord?'' Marlon was confused.
''It was the Dragon King that came here. Can you imagine the heavy guest that nearly graced my wedding?'' the quirky vampire king asked.
Marlon stopped in his tracks and looked at the Vampire King with shock.
''The what?'' He asked Lord Declan.
''You heard me. The Dragon King was there, claiming that he had lost his mate in our kingdom.'' Lord Declan had now reached the wedding venue and resumed the buoyant smile that he had on for the guest.
''I told you, my Lord. I told you about this girl. Is she worth the risk you are taking?'' Marlon was very worried.
''He didn't say that this girl was his mate. He didn't mention the name Ayra to me, so it could be anyone in the kingdom, but not my Ayra.'' Lord Declan shot Ayra a fond glance as he spoke to Marlon.
''There is only one stranger in this kingdom, and that is Ayra, my Lord. You can't claim to not know that the Dragon King was referring to Ayra.'' Marlon was fed up with the King's stubborness.
Lord Declan would not be bothered about anything of the sort that Marlon spoke of.
''Marlon. I think I have told you before that if you no longer want to be my guard, then you can quietly leave the council and I will appoint someone else, because I see no reason why you should be such a blockage to me when I finally found love.'' Lord Declan looked at Marlon with disappointment as he spoke.
Marlon sighed a heavy breath and stopped bothering Lord Declan. Instead, he concentrated back on the wedding.
