The sound of a shattered glass shifted people's attention from Maxwell to Diana, and for the first time since she entered the Ashford family, Diana's warm and polite aura immediately turned dangerous. Her eyes were glazing in anger as she approached the chairman.
"What did you just say?" Diana angrily asked, surprising everyone in the room because not once had they seen her angry.
Chairman Ashford, on the other hand, smiled at her and said, "If I knew this decision would bring out such beautiful expression from you, then I wouldn't have waited for a month."
"Dad! How could you even say such a thing in front of everyone?" Samuel shouted, rushing to stand by his wife.
Maxwell turned his gaze to his son as he asked, "Why are you so against this? Isn't she your daughter-in-law?"
"Are you being serious? You of all people should know that this girl has only trapped Gael with her child. We were only quiet about this last time because it was our company anniversary and many prominent figures were there, but is it that you are unable to see that Gael's marriage to this girl, who is clearly a lowlife, is a huge mistake?" Samuel shouted.
"Father-in-law," Andrea called softly, making eyes turn to her, but despite their attention, she continued, "Could you please not shout?"
"Excuse me?"
Andrea looked him in the eyes despite his glare and said, "I mean no disrespect, but lately Kai has become difficult to appease once he starts crying, and I'm afraid your shout will not only wake him up but also..."
Chairman Ashford's sudden laugh stopped Andrea from completing her words, and this was the scene Lucas and Raya walked into.
A smile was still on Maxwell's face even after he stopped laughing, and he stretched forth his hand, saying, "I hope my great-grandson won't cry when I hold him."
Andrea understood that he was asking to hold Kai, but she felt uncomfortable giving her baby to this man. However, she also knew that not giving him the baby would only cause more harm than good, so she carefully handed Kai to him, silently praying that he would not wake up.
Chairman Ashford chuckled softly when he held the baby and said, "He looks exactly like his father." He moved his gaze back to Andrea. "Gael told me you were once a teacher, so I'm certain you will do well as the new director of Zarion High."
Andrea was still surprised that the chairman had asked her to be the director of Zarion High School, a position currently held by Diana. This man was not just handing her a valuable position, but he was also making her Diana's enemy, but what will he gain by doing this? Is he perhaps hoping for Diana to be the one to get rid of her?
"Kai Ashford, he has such a beautiful name." Maxwell said. He then turned to the others and said, "The reason I have invited everyone here is to make two things known to everyone in this family and even to my closest friends. This baby in my hands is my eldest great-grandchild, and that is why I will be giving five percent of my shares in the Ashford group to him."
Lucas was about to protest when Raya held his hand and shook her head, saying, "You will only embarrass yourself."
"And that is not all, for being my first great-grandson, I will be opening a one billion trust fund for him."
Andrea's eyes widened in shock. Did he just say one billion? Did she hear correctly?
Gael glanced at her when he heard her gasp and noticed her slightly open mouth. Leaning in, he whispered, "Close your mouth."
Snapping out of her daze, Andrea quickly covered her mouth, feeling embarrassed. She hoped no one else had noticed.
Raya, who had been watching, felt a sting of jealousy as she saw how close they were. Clenching her fists, she quickly looked away.
"For giving the Ashford family this beautiful gift, it is only right for Andrea to be given something valuable in return, and that is why I am making Andrea Ashford the new director of Zarion High School."
"If you truly wanted to give her something valuable, then maybe you could have given her a house, a car, or even thousands of dollars, but giving her Diana's position is not only disrespectful to me and my wife, but it is also an insult to this family." Samuel shouted once again.
"You are one to talk about insult." Gael coldly spoke. He looked at Lucas with disdain in his eyes as he said, "Wasn't giving our family name to the son of another man enough insult to this family?"
"Gael, watch your words. I am still your father."
"And Andrea is my wife and the mother of my son. What exactly gave you the right to call her names in front of everyone?"
"Because it is obvious that this girl has somehow trapped you with this child. I have nothing against Kai; he is my grandson, but I will never accept Andrea as your wife. It is better to get a divorce and marry someone who comes from the same status as you."
Gael looked at his father for a few seconds before saying, "Fine, I will get a divorce."
Andrea immediately snapped her head to Gael, waiting for an explanation. He wasn't serious about getting a divorce, right?
"I will divorce Andrea on the condition that you get a divorce from Diana as well."
"Gael!"
"You are against my marriage with Andrea because she isn't of my status, right? Then shouldn't you lead by example because, last I checked, your wife's family were just average filth until their daughter got married to you and raised their standard?"
"That's enough, Gael." Diana finally spoke again. "I know you do not like me because, for some reason, you think I am an evil stepmother, but respect your father and my family."
Gael coldly turned his gaze to Diana , and he sneered, "Andrea is my wife and, by my grandfather's orders, the new director of Zarion High. I will not tolerate any insult or ill attitude towards her, and if one of you decides to test my patience, I will end you in the blink of an eye."
A glimpse of amusement passed through Chairman Ashford's eyes, and he gently pinched Kai, making the child suddenly burst into tears.
Hearing her child cry, Andrea immediately rushed to take the baby into her arms and asked, "Is there a place I can feed him?"
Maxwell smiled and replied, "Of course, Hannah will take you to your room."
Hannah, who was standing at a corner, rushed to Andrea's side and said, "Let's go; I will take you to your room."
Andrea nodded and followed Hannah upstairs.
While Andrea was going upstairs with a crying Kai, Maxwell watched her with interest that only lasted for a few seconds before looking away, unaware that Diana had noticed his gaze.
