The moment Gael entered his room, he froze when he saw Andrea moving around the room, trying to calm down Kai.
He gently closed the door as he asked, "Is he still crying?" It had been three hours since Andrea left the living room to go feed the baby, so why was he still crying?
A tired Andrea shook her head. "After eating, he had stopped crying, and just when I decided to just close my eyes for a bit, he began to cry again. Are you sure nothing is wrong with him?"
Gael took off his suit jacket as he replied, "If something was wrong with him, then the doctor would have said something after his checkup."
"I have fed him, bathed him, and even changed him, but he still won't stop crying." Andrea said, and to both her and Gael's surprise, she also started crying.
Shocked by her sudden tears, Gael immediately asked, "Why are you crying?"
Andrea wiped her tears as she replied, "I don't know."
Gael sighed and asked, "When was the last time you had a proper sleep?"
Andrea looked at him with teary eyes as she replied, "I don't know."
Gael sighed, and there was a glint of hesitation in his eyes before he said, "Give me the baby."
"What?" Andrea asked, surprised that Gael, who had always avoided Kai, was suddenly asking to carry him.
"You need to sleep, or your body might give up. If that happens, how will you feed him?"
"But are you sure?"
"Yes, give him to me." Gael replied, stretching his hand to carry the baby.
She handed Kai, who was still crying, to Gael, carefully watching his reaction.
Gael held Kai and gently began to pat his back.
"You should get some sleep." He said as he began to walk to the door of the room.
"Where are you going?" Andrea asked.
"We are going for a walk. You should sleep."
Andrea let out a sigh of relief. She wondered why she wasn't worried to leave her baby with a man who has been avoiding the child since he was born.
Watching Gael leave with Kai, she began to wonder just what type of man he was.
"It doesn't matter; I shouldn't waste this chance to sleep." Andrea said as she quickly lay on the bed and closed her eyes in an attempt to sleep.
...
Gael, on the other hand, took a crying Kai to the garden. He sat on the bench there and kept rocking him until Kai slowly stopped crying.
Even after he stopped crying, Gael still continued to slowly pat his back, hoping for him to fall asleep.
Ever since Kai was born, he had tried his best to stay away because he didn't want to get attached to this child, but now, having that same baby in his arms, made him feel something he had not felt for a long time: peace.
Gael looked at the baby and asked, "Do you miss your dad? Is that the reason you have been crying lately?"
The child only looked at him with his little eyes and rested his body back on his shoulders, making Gael chuckle.
His expression became solemn as he looked at the bright moon in the sky and whispered, "I miss him too. Ever since he left, it has been really silent."
He decided to stay seated until Kai gradually drifted to sleep. Once he was certain the boy was resting peacefully, he rose to his feet, prepared to return to his room. But as soon as he turned, he saw Raya standing just a few feet from him.
Gael looked at her with no emotions in his eyes and was about to walk past her when she held his hand.
Gael's gaze dropped to his hand, which she was holding. His voice turned cold as he said, "You are a married woman, and I am a married man. The least you could do is have some self-respect."
Raya's eyes welled as she withdrew her hand from his and watched him go inside.
When she could no longer see any sight of him, her gaze moved to the moon as she got lost in past memories.
Gael returned to the room and saw Andrea fast asleep. He gently placed Kai in his crib and let out a sigh when both mother and son did not wake up. He then went into the bathroom to take a shower, and after coming out, wearing just a sweatpant, he decided to check on the baby, and to his surprise, the little baby was awake.
Gael let out a tired sigh and now understood why Andrea had not slept properly for days.
He carried the baby from the crib and collected his tablet that was on the nightstand before going to sit on the couch.
Holding Kai to his chest while reading through the presentation sent to him by Cedric was supposed to make Gael tired, but instead, he felt relaxed.
Kai had gone back to sleep while resting on his chest, and an hour later, Gael followed.
The next morning, Andrea woke up feeling relaxed and well rested. She couldn't even remember the last time she had slept this well.
But her happiness ended the moment she realized that her baby did not cry throughout the entire night.
Andrea immediately rushed to the crib, and her heart sank when she saw that it was empty. She was about to raise an alarm when she saw Gael resting on the couch, his hand protectively wrapped around Kai, who was sleeping on his chest.
The scene before her was so beautiful that Andrea found herself grabbing her phone to take a picture.
Her eyes lit up as she looked at the beautiful photo she had just taken, but unfortunately, the light in her eyes dimmed when she remembered that Henrick would never be able to spend time with Kai like this.
