Chapter 14

"Ulco!" Misera called to her co-sorcerer causing him to momentarily leave Morgetha and look at her.

Morgetha took the chance and got up to her feet, shakily. She picked up one of her swords, for she didn't have the strength to wield both at once. She readied herself for Ulco's next hit when she saw him swatting madly, turning round like a crazed man.

She looked to Misera and saw her smiling. She knew then the woman had helped her.

Misera chose her side and sent the Sihkers to Ulco with an instruction to not track but kill.

Morgetha was going to hit him when he fell to the ground but as she got closer and saw him, she saw that there was no need, the man was already dying. She suspected those invisible flies had something to do with it.

"Go help her" Misera said to Morgetha.

Morgetha went to go join Arba who was fighting off Fuhrer (that man refused to give up) and a sorcerer who had recovered consciousness.

Morgetha had barely fought a couple of minutes when Misera shouted, "Behind you!"

The last sorcerer had gotten up and was going to hit Arba from the back.

Arba turned and threw him across with a wave of her hand. As though she had enough of it all, she turned to the sorcerer Morgetha was combatting with and flung him yards away with another swipe of her hand.

Then she turned to Fuhrer who was on the ground, exhausted. She lifted him high up in the air without touching him. With her blazing eyes, she looked as if she was going to rip him apart.

In her haze, she was going to rip him apart, but she just held the frightened man in the air for some time.

Arsila came back to consciousness a few minutes ago, her mind had totally come back to reality now when she looked up and saw her father in the air looking completely frightened. He had never looked his age like he did at this moment.

It took her some time comprehending what was before her eyes, before she spoke, "Stop!"

"Let him be" she said to the girl who exuded more power than she had ever seen. Fuhrer may not have been the best father, but Arsila didn't want him dead.

Arba left him suspended a little while more before she dropped him and she too dropped to her knees. She had used too much power for her first time.

As she stopped using her power, adrenaline stopped pumping, exhaustion washed over her and Morgetha felt it too, equally falling to her knees by Arba's side; though what she felt was merely a reflection of what Arba felt.

"Morgetha!" Arsila cried from her now sitting position as she saw her daughter fall to her knees.

"Don't worry she is fine" Misera assured her, "It's just the effect of the bond"

"The bond…. you don't mean...?" Arsila almost didn't want it to be what she was thinking.

"Yes" Misera smiled at her, "the transcendent bond foretold of in the prophecy"

Arsila just nodded, it was what she thought.

Just yesterday she believed her daughter was the blessed 'Gifted one' and she was the other with who the blessed shared the transcendent bond.

Arsila might as well forget ever harnessing the powers of the blessed now, for doing so might not only greatly affect Arba, but also her daughter. She could not afford to lose her child. As a result, now she has to protect Arba also from anyone who would try to harness her powers.

What an ironical turn of things

~.~

Arba opened her eyes as the bright sunlight from outside assaulted her eyes. Seems she has slept in today and she knew why she didn't wake up at her usual time, her body felt tired all over. The bell chimed once today, it's no important day in the town. Not for Arba, for her it is a special day, the day she wakes up with her powers coursing through her veins.

Arba sat up in her bed, resting her back against her threadbare pillow she propped up against the headrest of her bed. While her mind still struggled to recollect all that happened last night and how Morgetha was able to portal her back home on time, Renart burst into the room followed by Renault.

"Rise up sleepy head" Renart said by way of 'good morning',

"Can't you knock?"

"Shut your mouth and get out of bed, you got to come downstairs!"

"huh?" her sleep mumbled brain managed to ask

"Come on now, take it easy with her, she just woke up from sleep" Renault said coming from behind his twin

"So?" Renart stupidly asked

"Like you are up and chirpy when you wake up" Renault replied him coming to sit by Arba's leg on the bed

"Good morning, Renault" Arba greeted her preferred twin

"Morning" both replied, Renault playfully glared at his brother

"How was your night?" Renault asked her

"It was good"

Renault nodded then said, "Mama thought you must have felt bummed from not attending the ball last night and said we should let you sleep in"

"Yeah, totally bummed" Renart snickered, Renault gave him a look to shut him up, but in that look the twins shared Arba saw they communicated something, they knew something. She brushed it off for the time being.

"No wonder this morning felt strange; first, I woke up later than usual; secondly, Mama didn't come threatening me with her spoon and then you guys came to get me from my room" she ticked of all the things that made today strange on her fingers.

"And it is about to get stranger" Renault said

"How?" she asked

"That friend of yours that came around yesterday, Caleb" Renault was saying

"What about him?" she asked, sitting up

"Um, your prince is downstairs!" Renart let out

"Yeah, that" Renault corroborated, "with the Queen and the Princess of the Kingdom"

"What?! Why didn't you say so since?"

"Renault likes to take his precious time to get to the point" Renart accused

"No, that's your thing" his twin replied

"Not true"

"So true"

Arba ignored the bickering twins, jumping out of bed to freshen herself up to go meet her guests. As she threw back her covers, her dress that was apparently in bed with her was revealed, she tried to cover it back fast but the twins had already seen it.

"No issues, Arba we already know you went to the ball last night" Renault told her

"Yeah, I saw you. We told no one, though" Renart said. No wonder they had shared a knowing look earlier when there was mention of last night's ball.

"Told no one what?" Archer, who had been nearby and heard Renart's last statement, poked his head into the room and asked.

Her small room was looking smaller and tighter with the addition of three tall males.

"Excuse me all of you, I need to dress up" she hurriedly said pushing them out, in order to avoid having another person privy to her secret.
