I knew I shouldn't tell Vernon that Jayde was my fated mate. I didn't know how he would react, so I delayed it. Now that I knew how he would react, I didn't like it. The silence in the car was suffocating. I didn't know how I expected him to react. I just... Didn't expect him to say he loved me.
I knew I wanted to hear this from him, but not now, not when we were in an old car that smelt like a fart. Not when we just experienced something so traumatic, that I wasn't sure if he meant it, or he was just afraid that he might lose me. He wouldn't. But I didn't know if I should question it out loud. So I stayed silent and he took the hint.
Luckily he changed the subject, albeit still awkward. I was just glad he didn't force me to react.
When I came to another rest stop and stop, I wanted a nicer car this time. But I knew I couldn't be picky. We couldn't afford it.
