[HOLLY’s Point of View]
The hallways were familiar. The rogue guards were taking me to the courtyard of the palace.
I kept my eyes and senses sharp. I couldn’t feel Evander inside the palace and there was no familiar presence from our allies, meaning no one had broken into this place yet. What happened to Alec and Mel? Was the alliance failed?
Did we fail?
My heart was heavy when we reached the garden. The place once filled with white roses now looked like a graveyard. All the plants were dead, the ground was dry and the fountain with my father’s statue crumbled, as if someone had wrecked it.
And of course, only one person would enjoy doing it.
“Hello, Holly.”
The voice that sounded like the hiss of a snake made the wolf in me rage in anger. Randalf and Irina stepped out from behind the garden labyrinth with my pup Evlon sleeping in Irina’s arms.
My eyes widened. Evander! Evander failed to take back our child!
