Chapter 92

Anita’s POV

Alpha Hades' gaze lingered on me but there was something in his expression—curiosity mixed with a hint of surprise—that told me he wasn’t done asking questions. I braced myself as he set his glass down, his fingers tapping lightly against the rim.

“You said you’re terminating the contract,” he began, his voice calm but edged with intrigue. “Why?”

I blinked, momentarily caught off guard. “Why?” I repeated, buying myself a few seconds to form an answer. “Because it’s not working.”

His brows knit together. “Not working… how?”

I sighed and placed my glass down, staring into the  liquid as though it held the answers I didn’t want to voice. “It’s hard to explain,” I said finally. “We’re not… affectionate. There’s no connection, no bond.”

Alpha Hades tilted his head, his dark eyes narrowing slightly. “Not affectionate?” he echoed. “Why not? Isn’t that the point of a mate bond?”
