Chapter 30

My reflexes took over. I slowly withdrew the sword from my waist.

With a trembling hand, I wound up, closed my eyes, said a word of prayer—I'm giving this my all cause it's all I've got to do to keep if not myself but Luna alive. I took a step forward, and hurled.

The sword sailed through the air and hit its mark. A perfect shot. It hit the beast in its eyeball, driving through to its brain.

Well, I didn't get what I expected, the beast shriek filled the air. It sounded like the roar of thousands of lions. I watched the beast struggle with the sword on its head. I knew what was coming but was completely hopeless. That sword was the only weapon I had. To my ultimate surprise, the beast was back in shape in minutes and my sword laid on the ground broken by it.

The beast glared, enraged that I had tried to kill it.

It snarled, a deep, evil sound that rose from its belly.

I saw Luna was ready to pounce and I used all my might to stop her.

«Luna!!! No! Don't move! I'll do it! » I sent to her but she was stubborn. So I just ignored her.

As it skulked toward me , My heart pounding,I reached out for my gifts hoping it won't fail me. I was ready to tame the beast, make it mine. I stretched my arms towards it invading it thoughts. I was shocked by what I got. This was not just a creature, it was strong willed, possessive, domineering, ready to devour, unstoppable, beyond the kind of animal she could relate with. She opened her eye terrified at how the beast retracted my power. At that point I felt hopeless and daring at the same time.

«Luna, let's fight it! »I roared in my thoughts and Luna got it quick, she raced towards it and I followed. Luna jumped on its back and sank fangs in it. It was too sudden and the beast was somehow caught unawares. I saw this as an opportunity. I tore a part of my dress to make a sling, placed a stone and hurled it.

The beast broke into a sprint, moving faster than anything I have ever seen in my life. I took a step forward and hurled anther stone, praying it hit, knowing I wouldn't have time

to sling another before it arrived.

The stone hit the beast in its right eye, knocking it out. It was a tremendous throw, one that would've brought a lesser animal to its knees.

But this was no lesser animal. The beast was unstoppable. It shrieked at the damage, but never even slowed.

Even without one eye, it continuedbto charge mindlessly at me. I was enraged when I saw him get a hold of Luna. I flew through the air and flinged Luna away from it with my body. The blow sent her falling some feels away from us. I felt a bit relieved. Now, it's time to face one demon a time.

Before I could think , the beast was on me. It wound up with its huge claw and swiped myshoulder.

I shrieked. It felt like three knives cutting across my flesh, hot blood gushing instantly from it. I was in a very dangerous and helpless position.

The beast pinned me to the ground, on all fours. The weight was immense, like an elephant standing on my chest. I felt my ribcage getcrushed.

The beast threw back its head, opened wide its jaws to revealed it's fangs, and began to lower them for my throat. As it did, I reached and grabbed its neck; it was like gripping solid muscle. I could barely hang on. My arms started to shake as its fangs descended lower. I felt its hot breath all over my face, felt the saliva drip down onto my neck. A rumble came from deep within the animall's chest, burning my ears. I knew I would die

I closed my eyes.

«Please, God. Give me strength. Allow me fight this creature. Please. I beg you. I will do anything you ask. I will owe you a great debt. I don't want to die. »

And then something happened. I felt a tremendous heat rise up within my body, coursing through my veins, like an energy field racing through me. I opened his eyes and saw something that surprised me: from my palms emanated a green light,Band as I pushed back into the beast's throat, amazingly, I was able to match its strength and hold it at bay.

I continued to push until i was actually pushing the beast back. My strength grew and I felt a cannonball of energy—an instant later, the beast went flying backwards, sending it a good ten feet. It landed on its back.

I sat up, trying to understand what had happened.

The beast regained its feet. Then in raw rage, it charged again—but this time I felt different. It's energy coursed through me ; I felt more powerful and invisible than I've ever been

As the beast leapt into the air, I crouched down, grabbed it's stomach, and hurled it, letting its momentum carry it.

The beast flew through the air and collapsed to the floor. I saw my broken sword then. I picked it ready to plunge it into the beast's stomach

The beast blinked twice, then looked at me . It stood up and charged again.

This time, as the beast charged, I grabbed it by its throat. We both went to the ground, the beast on top of me. Then I felt another animal join us. It was Luna. She dipped her fangs into his eye and brought out his second eyes. I felt proud of her. I rolled over on top of it, held onto it, choking it with both hands, as the beast kept trying to raise its head and snap its fangs at me. It missed—it's blind. Feeling a new strength, I dug my hands in and did not let go. And soon, amazingly, I felt stronger than the beast I was choking it to death.

Finally, the beast went limp.

I did not let go for another full minute.

I stood slowly, out of breath, staring down, wide-eyed, as I held my wounded arm. Luna crawled over and rested at my feet. She was injured too and weak. What had just happened? Did I just kill a beast?
