I stood outside a multiple story building looking apprehensive. It's a strange building, the highest I've ever seen and it's more strange that I had no idea how I got there. Luna was standing right beside me and I could feel her amusement too. I entered a door and began to climb the stairs. I walked up with lightning speed, surprising myself. I took the steps three at a time, and my legs weren't even tired. I couldn't fathom what was happening to my body. Whatever it was, I loved it. I feel more stronger as each moment passed. I stopped at a door, slightly ajar believing that there could be someone in there who would explain to me how I got here and why I'm here. I walked tentatively into the apartment. It was quiet and still, old and dusty—seemed like no mortal has lived in it for decades. I suddenly wheeled, looking all around me, feeling the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Was someone else in the apartment?
As if to answer my silent question, at that very moment, three people, dressed head to toe in black, appeared from the other room. They walked nonchalantly into the living room, heading right for me. Luna came near, held on to the hem of my dress. Three men. It was hard to tell how old they were—they looked ageless—maybe, late 20s. They were all well-built. Muscular. Not an ounce of fat on them. Well groomed. And very, very pale.
One of them stepped forward. I took a step back in fear. A new sense was coming over me, a feeling of dread. I didn't understand how, but I could sense this person's energy. And it was very, very bad.
"So," the leader said, in a dark, sinister voice. "The chicken comes home to roost."
"Who are you?" I asked, backing up. I scanned the room for a weapon of some sort. Maybe a pipe, or a bat. I started thinking of exit points. The window behind me.
Did it lead to a fire escape? Well, all these things is still mysterious to me cause I don't even know how I got here.
"Precisely the question we wanted to ask of you," the leader said. " We are not like any of your human friends so don't play games with us. We want straight answers. "
Human? What is he person talking about? I took several more steps back.
I didn't have much room left to go . I was almost flush against the wall. I remembered now: the window behind me did lead to a fire escape. The building seemed to have a rusty chimney right beside one of its window. I just hope it's this one. I just lifted Luna up to my neck. If I'd escape then I won't be living her behind.
" We knew we'd have visitors today. Never thought it would be a young ass. " he said. The three of them slowly approached me, each taking a step forward. " you were never allowed to feed on enough red milk before sending you to the den."
I scanned my memories desperately.
Feed? Milk? I tried as I could, I had absolutely no idea what he was talking about.
"Why intermission?" he asked. "What is the message you were trying to send?"
I was against the wall, and had nowhere left to go. They took another step closer. I felt certain they would kill me if I did not tell them what they wanted.
I thought as hard as I could. Message? Intermission? I recalled roaming the hallway, at school , my attack. Yes, it was coming back to me. There was an hospital and I was to take a surgery. Sylvia was going to get Emiliar... Nothing is making sense to me.
"You are in our territory at the wrong time ," he said,"and you know the rules. You are going to have to answer for this."
Know the rules?
They took another step closer. I've seen enough.
Without hesitating, I turned, opened the window and climbed through. I jumped onto the fire escape and raced down the rickety, rusted steps.
I ran for all i was worth, twisting and turning. The old fire escape probably hadn't been used in years, and as I rounded a corner, a step gave way. I slipped and screamed, but then caught my balance. The entire fire escape shifted and swayed, but it didn't give completely.
I had descended three flights when she heard the noise. I looked up, and saw the three of them jump onto the fire escape. They started descending, impossibly fast. Much faster than I was. I increased my pace. I reached the first floor, and saw that there was nowhere to go: it was a 15 foot jump down to the sidewalk. I turned my neck, saw that they were coming. I looked back down.
No choice. I jumped.
I braced myself for the impact, and expected it to be bad. But to my surprise, i landed lithely on my feet, like a cat, with hardly any pain. I took off at a sprint, feeling confident I would leave my pursuers, whoever they were, far behind.
As i reached the end of the block, surprised by my incredible speed, I looked back, expecting to see them far away on the horizon. But I was shocked to see that they were only a few feet behind me . How was that possible? Before I could finish the thought,I felt bodies on top of me. They were already tackling me down to the ground.
I summoned all of my newfound srength to fight off my attackers. I elbowed one of them, and was pleasantly surprised to see him go flying several feet. Encouraged, I wheeled over and elbowed the other one, and was again happily surprised to see him go flying in the other direction. The leader landed squarely on top of me , and began to choke me . He was stronger than the others. I felt my rage coming. I felt hot determined to fight him. I looked up into his large, coal black eyes, and it was like staring into the eyes of a shark. Soulless. It was the look of death. I used all my might, every last ounce of her strength, and managed to roll and throw him off of me. I jumped back to my feet, once again in a sprint.
But I hadn't gotten far before I felt myself tackled once again by another. I had the chance to grab him by the neck. I was choking him. I felt the rage coming. I felt hot,my nails grew out into sharp claws and these claws were sinking into the man's neck. He must have underestimated me that he allowed me the chance to his neck. I felt in control as I squeezed life out of him till his neck was detached from his body. I smiled at my handwork and threw it off feeling another coming upon me. I rolled over, now on him and slashed his throat. Proud of myself that I've taken the second down. I patted Luna's back, she'd been hanging on to my chest all these while. I broke into another sprint but not too long enough before I was tackled again, by the leader. How could he be that fast? I had just thrown him across the alley a while ago.
This time, before I could fight back, I felt knuckles across my cheek, and realized he had just backhanded me . Hard. The world spun. I regained consciousness quickly, and prepared to fight back, when I felt the weight of his muscular arm pin me down to the ground. He extracted a cloth from his pocket. Before I could react, the cloth was over my nose and mouth.
As I took one last, deep breath, the world spun, turned foggy.
Before the world turned to completely blackness, I could have sworn I heard a dark voice whisper in my ear:
"You are ours, now."
