Chapter 91

Lake of fire.

I'm not scared. Even if Alistair has not told me about our special powers and how it resists fire, I think if be ready to die now. For heaven's sake, what else am I living for?! Everything is wrong with me. That coward!

My chains were lose and four mighty guards got hold of me. I felt like a queen accompanied by a convoid to her final home, her death. How sweet?

The lake of fire, here I come. My carrier stopped a few inches away from the fire, to avoid being hurt by the fire. Then, I thought I'd really die. I looked around to search for Julian's but he wasn't anywhere close. He wasn't there. If I'd really die, I'd like to at least see him before I go. Heartbroken, I asked the guards to go ahead. They carried me high above their heads at threw me with all the force they could manage. I closed my eyes, awaiting whatever life held for me. All I could do was pray.

Julian rode as fast as he could to the sacred house. He needed to see Alistair. When he got to the house, he saw dead bodies all over, all burnt. He searched around but there was no one still breathing. He was awed. He knew immediately that his father was behind it. The sacred house stood still might in its usual beauty. He pondered on how to get it. The truth is he can't. He picked stones and threw it at the window.

Alistair was in her room, still praying when she heard something hit her window. At first, she ignored but since it continued she checked who was there. She was surprised when she saw Julian. She rushed down to meet him. Emiliar and the others stayed put at the door.

"Julian, how's katrienair? Tell me she's fine." Alistair questioned.

Julian swallowed. Guilty and shame was written all over his face. "She ..." He trailed off."I don't know if she'll be fine. He's getting her into the lake. I know you are the only one who can help her. That's why I came."

Alistair's face darkened. Lake? The thought that if her powers disappear in a second, katrienair will be no more, shook her soul.

"I..." She pursed her lip. "Katrienair got her powers back right?"

"Yes."

"Are you sure? "

"I don't know what you are talking about. Her powers do not matter in the lake. It's the lake of fire. You need to help her."

"It matters. There's... A lot you don't know. I have to be sure it returned. Or maybe it didn't. Maybe it's only her skill. My sister would not hide from me." She swallowed, then faced Julian who looked rather puzzled. "How did her powers return? I never told you. It wasn't necessary but I guess it's hightime I did. I told you Katrienair would lose her powers. I told you to erase the mark, did you?"

"Of course, I did."

"Well, as much as that act was necessary. It would not bring her powers back. It's a punishment, it had to be difficult. I didn't tell you that she won't get it until she gets marked by her mate. Her real mate, usually hard to find."

Julian's jaw dropped on hearing this but he was quiet. Real mate she say?

"Did she get marked? Did she find her mate? How else would she regain her powers that I do not know of."

Julian was quiet and that only got Alistair more curious. "Do you know if she went anywhere without you guys during the journey? Is they any other person in her life I do not know of? Speak! You are freaking me out!" She yelled.

"I...you mean she must have been marked?" He stammered.

Alistair raised his chin up to her face. She had a grin on her face now. She trusts her sister so much that the truth only became clearer as time passed. "Did you? Huh? do you always forget you are a demon?"

Julian was quiet. Alistair cursed beneath her breathe. 'oh my... What the heck is happening? :

"I'll take your silence as a yes. Oh my God, I..." She snorted. "Does katrienair know you marked her? Cause I'd like to know why she would hide such an information from me."

"She doesn't. Not yet. She was... drunk."He licked his dry lip. There's no point lying to Alistair. She would know anyways. " You won't understand. But I'm really sorry."

"Sorry for what?"Her expression was bland. "Do you regret?"

"obviously, no. You should not apologise to me but my sister. Just pray katrienair forgives you."

She paused to think for a while. "Well, I'm glad you marked her. I don't have to worry too much about... I always knew that fate would play it's part. Now I'm convinced you guys are destined for each other. You might be a demon but..." She walked away from him. "I will not despise you. I'm coming back, wait."

She walked in and came out moments later with jewels in her hands. Alistair and jewels, huh...

"Take this. Once she's out of the lake. I know your father would like to try other ways. Katrienair needs to replenish her energy. She must wear these." It was a golden necklace, with an emerald trim and it's wrist bands." Katrienair must be safe. She is your responsibility now. Make sure you make her understand. She would be harsh but trust me, she loves you. I know that. Don't mess with my sister. I'm not always nice."

Julian's face was still hung down. She held it up. "Hei, look at me. Don't feel bad okay? You did what you had to. Come on, it's not worth the face. Cheer the hell up."She gave him a playful slap on his face. "You should get back to the castle now." She embraced him. Tears dropped from her eyes as she did. She could not help it.

"Thank you Julian. You are... a Godsent."

She left him and ran back into the house.
