I stood on the top of one of the hills of the northern province of the demons territory, my comrades by my side.
The demons' soldiers were already on the horizon. We planned to go meet them at the castle but the sudden change of event didn't matter anyway. All around, men were busy preparing their weapons. Archers took positions, thousands of them, arrows and bows also ready. If they want it on this hill, so be it. Thousands of more men took positions with Spears, young legion members with slings. Thousands of men beneath the hill had swords and Shields and every weapon imaginable. Israel was giving commands, with Alistair, looking stronger by my side. I felt optimistic. This is the war I've lived for. With the Key wounded in my hands, I already knew what the results of the war would be. It would be a hard one though.
I looked again over the horizon and reminded myself of what was coming. The demons has never been defeated on any battle. I forced myself to believe that this time would be different. I closed my eyes and prayed that God be on our outside. Since the journey to the demons territory began, I have been wondering who the woman who stood by isreal was. I haven't had the chance to ask him, probably wouldn't but she looked so much like Sylvia. Is She Sylvia or someone else? But Sylvia isn't a soldier, she should not be at war. I just pushed that away from my mind and faced the war at hand. I could tell I wasn't the only one wondering. Emiliar has been unimaginably quiet dismeanor since morning. I looked over the horizon once more, the demons' soldiers are twice as large as ours or even thrice. I began to walk down the hill, the seven of them trotting behind. Israel and the woman who looked like Sylvia would stay up to control the army. I guess Alistair notice how the seven of us looked on seeing their size.
She held my hands and Emiliar's whose horse was by her other side, while she stared at the others.
"We'll fight as one. Battles are not won by the sword. More often, they are won by the heart, by the cause. They might be many but we are made stronger by our cause."
We nodded, facing the horizon again. I was searching for a face now. A boulder has been set above the horizon, if brought down would kill thousands of soldiers who are beneath it. That's one way of catching the demons unawares. I wanted Julian and Kabal to be out of it before the boulder is released.
When I saw that they were out, I signalled to Israel to blow the trumpet. War began immediately. The boulder, holding a cauldron of fire was released. The demons didn't see it coming. It crashed hundreds of them down. For a moment the sky was dark with thick cloud of dust and smoke. That marked great war.
"ARCHERS! FIRE!" Israel screamed commands.
"FIRE ON THE CATAPULTS! AIM FOR THE MEN AFAR!"
"ARROWS!"
"SLINGS!"
"DEFEND!"
I rushed into the emerging crowd of demons soldiers, killing everyone at every angle. The key was a swift and instant killing machine. Rains of arrow flew through the air, finding their target among the exposed demon soldiers on the other side of the field. Since they just too much, we practiced both defence and attack skills. Roger's Army were well discipline, they also fired back at us.
Soon the archers joined the battle ground below and the battle intensified. I managed to take one or two glances at my comrades, they we're doing just fine. I could see Julian, he's brought down his own people, they never expected it so it was easier, or rather harder. I sighted Kabal only once before he plunged onto the thick war. He's a skilled fighter, I knew deep down that he'll be fine.
Thousands of Roger's Army were brought down, likewise ours, but we have the least to spare. It was obvious that Roger had no regard for life. He would just keep sending men to their death without another thought. It even seemed as if it were his strategy -- to keep offering as many men as he could until we run out of ours. Was he that merciless to sacrifice so much thousands of his own people without a second thought?
Before I could finish my thought, I caught a glimpse of something sailing at me out of a corner of my eye. I ducked just in time. Inches over my head, I saw a huge flaming boulder. I noticed it would land on our soldiers. I needed to do something. I remembered the last intensive training I had with Daniel, he said I could do anything, anything without the fear of losing my energy. Here is the time. In absolutely rage, I flew high above the intense battle beneath, without wings, there was this surge of energy that lifted me off the ground. I got to the boulder just in time and in an instant I punched it back towards the demon soldiers. I remained in the air, watched it sail, and land on the crowd of Roger's soldier beyond. It landed deep in the ground, like a flaming comet and impacted such force that it shook the ground. The sky was totally blackened with flamed, but war continued.
After it landed killing all the soldiers beneath it in a burst of fire and flame, it continued to roll, killing every being it came in contact with. Screams and cried of Roger's Army filled the air. The nature of the war suddenly change. They sent that to us, to consume us all and now they are being consumed by their own weapon. I stayed in the air because I knew more was coming and truly it did come, dozens of them. I punched them all over the horizon, in every angle I could manage. Though being mindful of my army. I looked down at our men, Israel was still giving commands. The fight was good and plain at the battle front but the emerging Roger's army was being cleared up by their own sly weapon.
Dear Demons, Your end has come.
