Chapter 5

Finally, I got to the home of Everest, on welcoming me was his creepy little brother, damn right in school I don't like this kid but what more can I say?

Maureen: hey, I guess you are here to see my brother, would you be spending the night or the week with us since I see you packed your bag and your stuffs?

Jackson: I guess I would be spending the night my dear friend

Maureen: alright, then come on in

Maureen is actually the name of Everest's little brother and like I said before I so hate this kid. So finally I stepped in and I got to Everest room and set my side ready to stay with him

Everest: dude before we can start anything, I would like to talk to you about something important

Jackson: alright bro, I'm all ears

Everest: well, it is about Ammie

Jackson: oh, that's just great

Everest: what was that?

Jackson: nothing, I'm listening

Everest: Well, you know I liked Ammie after some time, but the truth is that I knew that she had feelings for you and she kept me in the friend zone all because of you and now I see you breaking her heart because you aren't showing up when she needs you. Look, I don't know what she did that is making you treat her so bad but the truth is that Sally isn't worth any of this

Jackson: Well, I've heard everything you have to say, but the truth is that you wouldn't possibly understand what is going on and besides where was Ammie when I was down, did she check on me? Did she ever call? and you are telling me that Sally isn't worth any of this either

Everest: wow, bro can you hear yourself, it is like you have been totally brainwashed or something, but anyway what do you need to get the study ongoing?

Jackson: I need the history of this town in their archives and it is only your mom that can give us permission to go there and pick the history right?

Everest: yes, she's the only one

Jackson: alright, I guess we should meet her before the day gets covered with darkness

We left for her office and we got the approval we needed, but on getting there, it was kind of dark but just at the other side I heard a voice behind the shelves and it was that of the Mayor

Mr. Flinch: What the hell do you think I need this for?

Unknown: I thought that it would be so needed in the sacrifice

Mr. Flinch: by all means, the boy needs to be eliminated, I don't want any excuses, we will find a new replacement, I feel he is getting soft

Unknown: I guess you are aware of the sacrilege you are about to commit right?

Mr. Flinch: it isn't a sacrilege if there's power attached to it

Unknown: then the girl?

Mr. Flinch: until we take over the boy's mind, we won't touch her because if we do anything now, it can be a trigger for the boy to be unleashed and he could take down everything we have worked centuries to build

Unknown: that's fine Sir, I would take my leave now

Mr. Flinch: I hope this all ends

That was when I came out from where I hid with Everest and definitely Everest had questions to ask and I wasn't sure I was in the best position or place to answer him

Everest: please tell me that you saw what I saw?

Jackson: I did, but I don't think that we should be here, please let's start going we have gotten what we wanted

Everest:

Damn, I got scared because I knew that anything could happen and I would have been caught right as I spied on them but I am so glad that even with the trauma Everest remained speechless as we left back to his house. I tried my best to stay calm and overlook the situation at hand concerning what he had just seen. The thing that kept hovering in my head was the fact that nothing seemed alright, before getting to the house of Everest I stumbled upon an owl that kept looking straight into my eyes and the moment I flipped sideways and came back, it was gone like a breeze.

Everest kept muttering to himself on what he saw back at the library of the town. He was consistently doing this and I almost became irritated with his acts, but what can I say? He was kind of traumatized with what happened and I didn't expect less but nevertheless we got home safely and began our research.

Everest: hey Jack, I don't want to be too frightened although I am, but if there's something you wish to tell me?

Jackson: well how can I say this now

Everest: go on, don't hide anything from me please, I need to know

Jackson: alright if you say so

Everest:

Jackson: Do you wish to know why I went to stupidly challenge Darren?

Everest: I don't know

Jackson: it is for one singular reason; he is a beast and some kind of demon

Everest: I am getting confused

Jackson: alright

I spent literally the entire evening explaining everything to him and funnier than I expected he clamored to know what we could do to take down the ferocious Darren and his dad. One great thing I suspect was that whatever could be inside the town's archives would be used to take down this new breed of chaos in the town.

At my house, Ammie managed to locate there with the help of the address given to her by no one other than Sally and that evening Ammie took the risk of walking out alone just to come to my house but on the approach she saw my mom stepping out for her night shift and then she had to stop to ask if I was in, but mom told her that I wasn't. The breakdown on Ammie's face because of how badly I treated her wasn't something that any guy should ever do to his girlfriend especially when he says he loves her for better or for worse.

On the extensive analogy I and Everest were trying to accumulate from the entire book, it became almost and literally impossible to see anything that got or flew away the old times of the town. Fair enough that was when I got the call from Sally asking if I was home and I told her no but she wanted to come over and I told her that I was at Everest's side. Sally is a kind of girl that can never stop until she gets what she wants and eventually she stops and doesn't get what she wants, then there would be a nicely served bowl of chaos waiting on the table of whoever had been victim to it.

Ammie kept calling me and I continued to ignore it, but little did I know that Everest was observing how I was ignoring all calls from Ammie so he told me that he wanted to get something outside the house for both of us to use and cool our heads while we kept searching. He then walks outside and calls Ammie telling her that I am with him and that he knows about the entire thing that had transpired between me and her because of Darren. Ammie told him that she would like to come over and help out in the research and he was okay with it.

In less than an hour Ammie arrived.

Everest: hey bro, sorry for the time I wasted but I had to fix something so important tonight or else I wouldn't forgive myself, I have a surprise for you and would you like to see it?

Jackson: alright bro let me see it

Everest: you can come in

Ammie walks right into the room

Jackson:

Ammie: I'm so sorry

I would be honest at this point I didn't know whether to respond positively or negatively but all I could feel was my body accepting her, which was so strange and it seemed like I felt alive again

Everest: Ammie, I will get us something to eat and drink downstairs while I leave you both to do a lot of catching up

Ammie: thank you

Everest walks out of the room, leaving the both of us to talk. Ammie considered Everest to be like her best friend because most times he understood her better than anyone, but she still kept her love for me in check.

Ammie: Jack, please let me explain everything to you

Jackson: I'm listening

Ammie: I tried calling and texting but at that point in time, my dad had returned and he seized my phone because he saw the marks on my body and thought I did something bad, but when I found this thread to be so serious and I wasn't getting my phone anytime soon, I decided to talk to Sally to pass some messages across to you which she told me that she didn't see you. I never had peace with myself and I tried asking who knew where you lived, but no one owned up to say they knew. I was so scared of meeting Jethro because I felt that he could take advantage at any point in time. But finally I was able to locate where you live through the help of your social media account, for weeks I tried searching for you until I did and now I don't want to ever lose you, please I am sorry

Jackson: It's alright, I've forgiven you and besides I know I was a jerk to you, so please forgive me too, I really missed you.

We both hugged and kissed and then waited for Everest to bring our refreshments for us while we solved the bigger mystery that lay ahead of us.

So Everest came back and we started from the beginning, which was nothing.

Everest: how the hell are we supposed to find something that is not inside, maybe nothing happened in this town and they are just trying to cover up something?

Jackson: yeah, I think you might be right

Ammie: wait no

Ammie takes the book and turns it upside down and begins to start from the back of the book almost like she knew exactly what was there and how it was written. When we saw this, we were astonished and couldn't wait to know more about what she was seeing which gave us the in-depth of what had really happened in this town.

After the amazing discovery, we kept the content of this book in our hearts because it revealed a shocking truth that we never knew could be true.

Everest: this is so freakishly awesome

Ammie: you're right but if they ever knew that we have this knowledge it could possibly be boom for us

Jackson: I think we need to watch each other's backs and stay at high alert don't you think so guys?

Ammie & Everest: yes

The following day, the day had just begun and I was so happy to be spending my time in Ammie's arms again because I missed her, so I left her in bed and went to meet Everest who had just woken up a bit early and went for the top balcony to admire the clouds.

Jackson: hey

Everest: hey

Jackson: How'd you sleep?

Everest: all good man, I enjoyed it and you?

Jackson: pretty much same bro

Everest: alright that is good, hey come over Jackson and sit with me

Jackson walks over

Everest: you know there are times in life where you would literally feel like you have no one at your corner and that important person is just a big wimp

Jackson: yeah, I know that feeling

Everest: sometimes you just gotta be strong and focus on the ones that do matter, the ones that genuinely check on you and get scared if you're not okay and the ones that hide their emotions just so that you would feel they don't care

Jackson: I know right

Everest: you know, right from the first day you got onto that bus and I saw you, I liked your persona and the way you maintained your distance and kept pushing despise all we did that day. I became a better guy because of that girl Ammie and I hope I continue to stay that way for life

Jackson: thank you for what you did for me bro, I really appreciate what you did. I never wanted to lose that girl because she is very important to me

Everest: I know, that girl is a rare gem to you, bro I always advice that you take care of her because you can never find anyone that can replace her in this world

Jackson: thank you so much bro

Everest: alright man, let us get going, we have breakfast to catch up on

Jackson: So what are we having for breakfast this morning?

Everest: well I don't really know but I'm thinking you both for a treat

Jackson: that is great

We both left for the room, to get Ammie, so that we could go outside to get our breakfast. When she was all dressed, we gathered all down the old alley and strolled towards the coffee shop to get some breakfast but then we ran into Sally, who rushed to hug me and well I didn't have a choice, I returned the gesture. Sally was so eager to join us and get to know what we were all doing together, but I noticed how she tried her best to cause a problem or some kind of havoc for me and Ammie but thank heavens that I decided to sit with Ammie and not on the same roll as Sally.

Sally: So what should we order?

Ammie: I think I would go with burger and cheese

Jackson: same with me

Everest: me too

Sally: I'm in

Everest: come on Jack, let's go make our order

So I went to go make our order with Everest, while we left the two girls.

Ammie: I thought you were my friend? You never delivered a single message I asked you to give to him, rather you go behind my back and start becoming friends with him

Sally: Look, we are in a public of people, could we not do this jealousy theatrics?

Ammie: yeah, you're right plus Jack can't have time for someone like you because he loves me and that's worth more than your betrayal

Sally: we will see about that

Jackson: Hey ladies, what did we miss?

Sally: nothing cutie

Ammie:

Jackson: Well this isn't the usual is it?

Ammie: what do you mean?

Jackson: What I meant to say is that this isn't the usual talk about school or boys is it?

Everest: come on guys; let's dig in before this gets cold

Jackson: This looks appetizing don't you think so my love?

Ammie: yes, it is

Sally:

Sally: So may I ask what you three were doing together?

Everest: we were exploring the great history of this town

Ammie: what a dummy

Sally: Wow, what for?

Jackson: an assignment

Sally: Wow, is there anything I could do to help facilitate this project?

Ammie: no we're good, as a matter of fact; we are actually done with the assignment

Sally: fine

Ammie:

Now, I don't have any clues of what is going on but I suspect some spark of the jealousy theory. So finally we all finished our breakfast and decided to head out.

Sally: wow this was a nice time I had with you guys and thank you Everest for the treat

Everest: you're welcome but that reminds me, where exactly were you going to?

Sally: I just wanted to have my regular morning routine which was to come here and have some Mexican lattes

Ammie: is that so

Sally: yes

Jackson: alright, that's great it was so nice of you to join us

Sally leaves….

Ammie: Everest, you almost spilled the beans of what we were doing

Everest: oops my bad, I'm sorry for that, I was just a bit excited about our discovery

Jackson: I prefer if you kept your excitement a little lower than usual, remember that we don't want Darren suspecting anything

Ammie: So guys where to next?

Jackson: I'm off to the house

Ammie: I'm coming with you

Jackson: shouldn't you be going so that your dad won't get worried or upset?

Ammie: my dad has actually gone back to New York because of his hotel

Everest: wow, I always wish that I will visit your dad's hotel in New York, I hope I am welcomed?

Ammie: off course you are

Jackson: alright guys, let us get going, I know I have tons of chores waiting for me in that house and I ain't ready to work late now

Everest: alright goodbye you both and Jack, take care.
