Everything had changed. Amrita's soul had been given justice, and she was no longer imprisoned in that house. I felt lighter and calmer than before. It felt like an important part of my life had ended.
But at the same time, a new beginning was in front of me. There was a lot of talk about that house in the city. Some people still called it 'haunted', while others saw it as the end of an old story.
One day Nidhi called me.
"Anya, I have some news for you," her voice was excited.
"What happened?" I asked.
"The house is going to be auctioned now. People are no longer afraid of it, but see it as a historical monument. Are you thinking... you will buy it?"
I was quiet for a while. Should I really buy that house? Now that Amrita's soul had found peace, could I start a new life there?
"Do you really think so, Nidhi?" I asked hesitantly.
"Yes, why not? You have freed that house from a bad memory. Now it is not just a house, but a part of your story."
---
For days I mulled over the idea. I remembered every moment spent in that house, the fear, the mystery. But then I realised that now the house was not just a haunt of scary memories.
It was now a symbol of a new beginning.
Finally, I decided. I was going to buy that house.
---
On the day of the auction, I was a little nervous, but somewhere deep inside I was also excited. When my number came, I placed the bid without hesitation. And within minutes, the house was now mine.
"Congratulations, Anya," Nidhi said, hugging me. "You have taken a really big step."
"Yes, Nidhi," I said, smiling. "Now a new story will begin in this house."
---
In a few days, I shifted to that house. As soon as I came into the house, I felt a strange peace. The house which was once a symbol of fear and mystery, had now become a safe place for me. I looked at every corner, and I felt memories of Amrita everywhere, but this time those memories did not contain fear, but the liberation and peace of a soul.
I went to the room where Amrita was murdered. Everything was quiet there now. The mirror was still there, but only my reflection was visible in it. I lightly touched the mirror and said to myself, "You are free now."
---
Slowly everything became normal in my life. I returned to my work, but that experience had changed me. I realized that every person has a story hidden at some point in his life.
Sometimes we need to uncover that story, so that not only others get justice, but we also get a chance to understand ourselves.
---
One day, when I was sitting in the courtyard of that house, Nidhi came to me.
"So, what have you thought now? What are you going to do with this house?" she asked jokingly.
I smiled and said, "Maybe I can make it a writing space. The peace here inspires me. And maybe, I can give Amrita's story the shape of a book."
Nidhi nodded and said, "You can definitely do that. Your story is no less interesting."
I looked at her and replied, "Maybe my story is not over yet. This is just the beginning."
---
That day I realized that every end in life points to a new beginning. Amrita's story taught me that no matter how difficult circumstances we go through, if we have courage and a desire for justice, we can overcome every difficulty.
And now, in this house I was going to start anew-a life filled with hope and courage, not fear.
